Finally got round to working on this... more pics to come.
![]() Base is a 3mm carbon fiber plate with additional 5mm bracing on the sides. Still to finish up the rear shocktower mount, battery strap and probably a motor plate brace. |

Metalsaw than sandpaper sticked to a piece of wood or plastic or metal block- justto have flat surface.
Dont think the carbon fiber is an unobtanium unmachinable material. But you can mill it or cut it with waterjet. Does not matter if its a prepreg carbon or just wet press made. simple

Various parts milled out for this conversion. ![]() Assembled chassis ![]() Here's the chassis with the front and rear assemblies attached ![]() Rear needed to be milled for proper fitment of the various parts (hingepin blocks, gearbox, etc. ![]() Milled to fit the front assembly ![]() Batteries are held in place with locators on the chassis and a battery strap on top. ![]() Didn't have the right alu so I just made a motor plate support from a servo mount... ![]() |

I have tried the idler mod once on a hi-grip indoor track, but I think it is best suited for outdoor low-grip. Didn't like it at all.
![]() Have you thought of a centralised gear-box brace not including the motor plate? Otherwise you will get different chassis-flex left to right.

![]() Looking at your pic of Losi Mid, the fiberglass used remembered me the ones sold by apexmodels looong time ago. I like it very much, easy to work on. Now only can have Kamtec but isn't the same finish.

Decided to bring the car for a race test yesterday and it ran great! Upped the oil in the rear to 40wt for a tad more damping in the rear to even out some chassis slap issues and it worked like a charm. I was most impressed with how the car jumped - it was doing the local triples better than my 4WD! Pleased to report the car came home with TQ and A Main champ honors! |
