Default total nubert asking questions :O)

Hiya

So, im startig to use the camera more at events for my website etc. Now outdoors ive managed to get some great racing shots, not bad considering I have no idea how to setup my camera etc etc.

Moving now indoors as we go to carpet I found I couldnt get a clear shot. Camera is setup to high speed photography, but I fear its more to do with it seeig the car as it comes due to the light. Also, the pictures look a bit 'grainy' as though not enough light is being captured even with the flash on full.

So, questions.

When indoor....what speed settings should be used for the best shot ?

Should I employ one of those big flash units, baring in mind I dont want to put the poor racers off with flash blindness ?

Cheers for any and all help
