So the opposite theory to real rally car dampers, which are stiffer in rebound by a ratio of as much as 3:1. Has anyone tried them the other way up?

i think that may be because real rally cars dont jump 10-20 times there own hight and same in distance lap after lap,

All depends how the shocks work...real cars pistons wont have a gap around the outside..whereas AE shocks have a small gap, so this forces the oil around the shock piston causing it to rebound faster! ;-)

I think you are saying that, in scale terms, 1/10 off road dampers experience higher forces than a full size rally car, when jumping. If you are bored at lunchtime try working this out; 1) Kinetic energy of a 1.6kg 1/10 off road car just before hitting the ground from a jump 20 times the cars height. 2) Kinetic energy of a 1500kg WRC car just before hitting the ground from a jump 2 or 3 times its height (Rally New Zealand). |

So what's the verdict on these? What sort of surfaces do they give you a particular benefit on - the bumpy ones, or large jumps?

I reckon they are really good got them in my Losi shocks which where already great but now feel even smoother ......

I believe they are best at bumpy, medium to high grip tracks that also have large jumps, like the euro's in bilbao.
The chamfered side makes the shocks rebound faster, but the pack when landing from jumps is the same. So you can keep smaller hole pistons on bumpy tracks. You get the best of both worlds: good landing from the big jumps, and good handling in the bumps because the rebound is fast, so wheels keep contact with the ground. I really felt the difference in bilbao, the car was a lot better at the complete banked section, from right after the quad all the way down to the dirt section. But for me the inserts were the biggest difference in Bilbao. After 6 free practises, 2 timed practice and 3 heats full of mistakes, I took the rymart inserts and drove 2 flawless heats, resulting in a 13 and 19th place, compared to the 30-40th place before!!! |
