NOOB qestion MM3 210
I recently picked up a dex210 new to me setup in MM3. Coming from a 22 I am dropping my electronics straight in as I have a club race tomorrow an not to much time to go over the buggy... Kinda just going to pray... Anyways... Do I have to reverse my motor direction via the esc (viper vxt10)?

mm3 means that you only use 3 gears so your motor turns backwards, as your motor creates the anker effect, your car will tend to lean backwards so more pressure on the rear wheels.
mm4 does the opposite, so you have more front grip. hope it helps

Thanks for the help. Picked up the buggy late in the afternoon and stayed up pretty late to get it done... Thanks for the help...

nope mm4 = more front grip & mm3 = more rear grip
f=forward b=backward starting from the wheels: mm3: f-b-f(also includes spur)-b(this is the motor) mm4:f-b-f-b(spur also)-f(motor) if you don't understand this check the website real good, because i just checked it.

Tobys is correct mm4 means you have more rear grip and mm3 means you have more front grip i have tested mm3 on polished wood lots of steering but no rear grip

so basically if you are racing on astro or carpet (high grip surface) you want mm4 and if your racing on polished floor or dirt you want rm3 simple

from more rear grip to more front it goes like this
rm4 rm3 mm4 mm3 super high grip you want mm3, super low grip you want rm4, if you have lots of rear grip, move down the list.

nope, I'm right 3rm is common because sometimes 4rm has too much rear grip and it hard to get it to turn predictably, and you need alot of grip for 3mm to have enough rear grip, 3rm and 4mm are happy mediums. Durango has a blog describing all the options.

No im not wrong, in mm4 the motor turns towards the front of the car, so more front grip.
I know im right cuz on astro you know it when youve got too little steering or rear grip, and if i corner to quick, ill spin

Grip is not caused by which way the motor is turning but by the torque reaction that is created by the motor, which is Infact the opposite direction to the motor spinning! In a 4 gear mid motor car the torque reaction spins in the direction of the rear of the car forcing the weight to push down over the rear wheels creating rear end grip. This is why a 4 gear gearbox was created. As when the original x6 with a 3 gear gearbox struggled with grip over the rear on acceleration due to the torque reaction of the motor wanting to lift the rear end causing it to go light!! This is the reason the extra idler gear was added to reverse the torque reaction

in answer to the original question, which seems to have been missed by all the talk of grip levels.
If you put the spur on the left side like a B4 (if you're looking at the front) in RM3 setup you won't need to swap the motor direction. MM4 like the X6. 3 gear setups need the spur on the left. 4 gear setups need it on the right. This is the whole point of being able to swap the spur from left to right to remove the need to reverse the motor direction. The motor is still going to spin the same way regardless. |

Thanks for all the help.. I was up late the night before shoe horning in my electrics and ran what the buggy came with.. It ran pretty good in MM3... I was impressed. Coming from a 22 I used the shorty packs I had, in the 210. I ran with my esc behind the pack.. The pack as far forward. 69spur and 34 pinion 17.5 non boosted.. It ran well.. WOW the steering. I had to dial it out on my radio and play with the expo... I can not complain for club level racing it ran well on carpet. I am not the fastest drive at my club. Mid level... It just felt better... My laptimes were more consistant.. However I did not have all the springs so I had to use some TLR in a pinch and found the rear a little short in length.
It was easier to drive then the 22. The steering was out of control... It went where I asked it to on a dime... Again thanks for all the help.. May have a couple question in the future... |
