The only problem is that the drive cup keep falling out of the bearing. I imagine that means binning it which is a shame. I got a spare composite standard front diff that I think will replace it unless I an source a one way or repair it. May have to look at Mr Bloomfields setup

Good stuff. It's very satisfying bringing an old car back to new condition. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

I seem to remember that there was nothing to hold the drive cup into the one way bearing other than the driveshaft itself. I also seem to remember there being a little spring in the drive cup which helped to keep the driveshaft in the centre of the drive cup but allowed for some movement throughout suspension travel.

Looks good.
I am currently doing exactly the same, rebuilding a neglected Losi XXX-4 G+. It's great to see your step by step rebuild with the pictures, keep it up

I wouldn't go for big bores straight away...the losi threaded seem to be versatile shocks and have been used for a variety of off roaders.
Good luck with the rebuild....I'll be following this one! |

The springs were used in the losi one way unit which used to self distruct after a few runs. The apex one was bullet proof, and for sure the red anodizing shows it up to be apex, although most fitted the blue one in the xxx4 and fitted the red one in the xxxs tourer.
We used to use lumps of foam chopped from inserts and that worked fine. The only thing was the cvd's would get sloppy at the front really quickly, the ally is a little soft for my taste. When i was at stotfold with it Phil Truman wandered over and suggested i use blue pistons all round, 60wt front oil and 40wt rear. black front springs pink rear i went home repeating it in my head and still remember it today! Yours has a fibre light front tower by the look, the one thing i really remember is that every single part cost a fortune to replace. |

yellow drive belt issue.
i seem to have an issue screwing down the tensioner when using the yellow belt, any advice on this as i cant get the tensioner lined up to the screw hole in the chassis.
Shocks being serviced - wondering weather to replace them with 22 big bores...hmmm Front parts coming together nicely Tried to replace the ball studs with new ones but had to take them out as they did not fit the new ball cups (losi grey hard ball cups that I had kicking around after from an x6) [/QUOTE]

Have you got the slot on the tensioner plate located correctly on the srew? Make sure the screw is not too tight to ensure the tensioner plate sits in correctly.
Sorry about the sideways pic, won't let me correct it for some reason.
