Paint removal from lexan shell !!!!
Hi guys it's a long shot but here goes, painted a 1/10 lexan buggy shell and used the wrong paint type, I used tamiya TS paint, needless to say after a few days it all started falling off in places, is there anything I could use to remove the rest of the paint so I could repaint with the correct paint as it's a shame as the shell is brand new or do I just throw it away !!!!
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Dot-4 brake fluid.
Worked great for me. There are some good videos on YouTube on how to do it, but basically I wrapped up the whole bodyshell in kitchen towels (Bounty!) and make sure the bodyshell is well wrapped in them and good and padded, and all parts and corners of the shell are in contact with the towels. Then put the whole thing in a plastic bag (with no holes in it!) And pour in a good helping of Dot-4. Leave it for about 24 hours and the paint should rub off quite easily. Stubborn areas (like the corners and recesses) I had to finish off with a cloth and some neat Dot-4 and just rub it till clean. ps - wear some gloves if you value your skin!! pps - i think the brake fluid affects the flexibility of the lexan, as afterwards the bodyshell became more brittle than it had been. Good luck |

Not sure about the dot4 brake fluid. I also saw that video on youtube, it will get the paint off but my bodyshell disintegrated a few weeks afterwards. Just turned into very brittle and breakable plastic. Ended up buying a new shell. That was a tamiya shell so not cheap!

Oh not so good.
Mine held up quite well (still on the old Boomerang right now!) but definitely more brittle now than before as you say. Maybe different manufacturers are more forgiving? My shell isn't original Tamiya - some cheap knock off from eBay |

Use hot wather (not boiling or you'll end up with a flat sheet ) with dischwashing soap. Let it soak a bit and the paint should peel off |
