Was not in the plane early enough for today? Also alonso was not running KERS today to see if he preferred to be able to change the weight bias.

Well, neither Renault nor McLaren are running anything close to what the diffusor-3 are running at the back of their cars. The Mcs and Renaults are just running an extension on the crash structure.
McLaren. http://i39.tinypic.com/v4q6fb.jpg http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74511 Ranault: http://www.renault-f1.fr/IMG/jpg/defle.jpg We`ll have to wait a little bit longer for their real attempt on a double-decker, and even then I doubt it´ll work as they hope. My money is on BrawnGP again as they seem to manage the, once again very critical, tires better then anyone else...at least in free practice.... ....I don`t think we`ll see any different difussors tomorrow! ...but it would be a nice surprise!

For sure there will be! ...on all the cars! ....but I doubt they will just slap it on without testing in tomorrows free practice session, on the other hand they don`t have much to loose. So why not, I would really enjoy to see another version of it tomorrow! Let`s just wait till tomorrow, maybe I`m all wrong and Alonso will be in the mix this weekend, would be great fun!

Brawn must be so happy everyone is obsessed with that one part and not looking into any other reasons!!
Fab's, I think Alonso is the best driver out there, but I still don't think that diffuser will get them to the tomorrow!! It'll be great findin out either way though! |

No it's an interim development but they're looking at 3/10th there, which should put them in the fight with red bull and either way, in a better position than they are now.

True, it'll help short term, but once everyones up to speed...well, he's been outqualified by 4 none diffuser cars at each of the first 2 races, and the Brawns probably good regardless, so I doubt they'll be top 6 once everyone has them, and that's discounting Ferrari and mclaren! Except for when Alonso does his magic anyway!!

This is where I disagree.
See, the fact that they have a double decker before anyone else has at least two advantages: First they have more chances of scoring points, and it's a long championship, and as has been shown by the last few seasons, every point is important. Second they will have more track time than the other teams and will be ahead of them in its development, much like the diffuser 3 are now. Not only will they probably have another update by the time the other teams will introduce theirs, but they'll also be able to spend time on other areas of the car. Also you forget the fact that the Red Bull in its actual design cannot be fitted with such a diffuser. They have two options at the moment which are either carry on their own path and ignore the double decker thing, knowing that they're not so far off them anyway, or redesign the whole rear end of the car which will take time and cost a lot of money and they will lose all the advantage of their current design, not to mention the fact that they'll have a much tougher time finding a good setup. |
