How reliable/costly is your daily run
Every year we get the JD Powers top 100 drivers satisfactory list .
This is just a simple post for you to let other oOplers know how reliable or costly you car has been as sometimes you get people asking for opinions on car A B or C MY Car 05 Ford C Max 2lt Tdci Ghia Owned 3yrs 4mths Milage in that time 36000 Actual mileage 56000 Mpg 42-44 local 50+ on a run Cost of replaced wear and tear items, Tyres £465 4 front 2 rear Brakes £133 Intercooler £345 Battery £95 Total £1038 average £26p/mth Insurance £883 over 3yrs Full servicing mot £452 Apart from the intercooler and battery going my c max has been totaly reliable. Great car to drive good visabilty and fuel economy and not a bad mid -range burst of overtaking speed. Road holding is fantastic for a car of this size and hieght, never lost it yet in any conditions. I,ve got three torn discs in my back and one in my neck and the seats in this car are by far the best in any car I,ve driven or been a passenger in. The comfort is so good that this is my second cmax. I would recommend this car to anyone.

I get 30mpg on mine on run and low 20mpg around town
Other costs, only just bought it. - Volvo S40 T5 - was going to look at a ST3 Ford Focus ST, but wanted more comfort etc. Getting old! |

BMW 323
Mpg = 18.5 around town (i live in the town centre) 40 on a run (this is based from my trip computer) Cost for parts is yet unknown as we have not had to get any work done in the 3 months we have had it. Allthough after the ice crazyness that is RWD i have had to get an emergancy tyre (£25 fitted 2nd hand) and will have to replace the other rear in about a month or so hence only gettin a 2nd hand tyre as i will replace both rears new when the next one needs doing.

Mk4 golf TDI
Owned for a smidgen over 3yrs now mileage when bought 110k mileage now 179k Insurance £329 for me (29) and the Mrs (25) I see 550 miles+ out of a tank full. 620 (52mpg) is the most I've got. 20 miles of country roads to work each way. Drove to Valencia and back last summer on Holiday so clocked up 3000 miles and it never missed a beat I lost reverse in the 1st few weeks of owning the car and lived without it for a few months. The DMF failed and 60 miles later the diff made a break for freedom out the side of the gearbox housing Some prices may be rough from memory gearbox off ebay £150 G60 solid flywheel £15 VR6 clutch £69 Poly bushes to replace worn originals £150 discs rear and pads all round £100 service equipment £80 oil every 10k (give or take) £13x6 tyres (can't remember exactly. maybe 2 sets on front 1 on rear) £300 (225/40/18) 3 wheel bearings £60 I cracked a wheel also hitting a rock while passing someone in the lanes. My wheels at the time had been resprayed black and I needed tyres anyway so I sold the 3 + the cracked one on ebay for £60 and bought a new set of silver wheels for £400. All prices are parts only as I can do all the work myself |

My 2006 Impreza WRX
MPG on my last tank was 17, I did a 500mile trip to newcastle and back before christmas and averaged 22.5 The best I ever managed was 30.1 and that involved driving at a steady 50 on the motorway. I bought it 3 years ago at 12000 miles and it's now on 49000 so I've put about £9000 of fuel in. What I've spent on it- £1600 for LPG conversion last July. It should break even in a couple of months. £1000 on coilovers as the rear shocks failed. It was cheaper to buy the coilovers than to get new shocks from Subaru About £1200 on servicing, including new front pads twice and one set of front disc's Needs a major service and cambelt in the next couple of weeks so there's another £300+ £70 on a new battery. £800 on two sets of tyres £500 pa on insurance £230 road tax pa (would be £400pa if it had been registered 10 days later) I also spent another £400 on new wheels and £700 on stiffer anti roll bars, solid drop links and anti lift kit. It has only ever let me down once when the engine started pissing oil out of one of the inspection plugs on the block, fixed that myself though. Great car though, it's reasonably quick, handles very well and looks good (imho) when it's clean. Now I've sorted it's drink problem I'm planning on keeping it for another couple of years at least.

Mk4 Golf 2.0 GTi (2003)
11k Miles when we got it, now up to 95k Repairs: Waterpump (Failed within warranty and was a known problem - fixed for free) Fusebox - Water ingress which led to a new one £110 all in Front pipe & Cat failed causing the Engine management light to come on even though it was fine on emissions, cost £400 all in. That's the only money i've ever had to spend repairing things but it's had: 2 sets of Discs & Pads all round (2nd set was only recently as they did 40k each). Around £100 all in each time getting a mate to do it. Servicing every year or 10k without fail for around £90 all in, i've supplied all parts on the major services which are around £150 Cambelt replaced at £150 Averages 30mpg on a usual tank, up to 35mpg if very careful driving daily and no traffic. It doesn't really get through hardly any oil either but i've heard some people with this engine have had a problem having to put 1-2L oil in between services. Not bad really, i think it's proved to me why the VAG cars are so well thought of and make good buys even at high mileage! Seat Leon FR TDi (2008) does 40mpg and all i've had to do since we got it was have all 4 wheels refurbed, couple of tiny door dents taken out and 2 x New tyres & brake fluid service (Overall i've spend £750 on it)

My Chevy Astro Dayvan,
Gets around 20 mph depending how you drive in 4.3 litre engine so not bad 200 bhp and weighs close to 3 tonne. Nothing breaks as its built like a tank engines go on forever so just service parts which are cheap. Its also fitted with LPG so works out just as cheap to run as a diesel

2007 Mk5 Golf Sport 1.9TDI
Average 55mpg, long run 65mph, town 40mpg. If I drive carefully and am stuck in slow moving traffic it can average about 75mpg @ 45mph. Never skipped a beat in the 6months I've owned it so far. |

2007 BMW 330D M Sport Touring.
35mpg knocking about and 45mpg on a run. Though I've had a couple of experimental runs where I've trickled along a quiet motorway at 60mph and been able to get just over 55mpg out of it, though I defy anyone to be able to do that on a regular basis. 1 set of front tyres at 300Euro and 1 full set of winter tyres at 750Euro(!). Dented alloy put back into shape 30Euro Replacement bulbs in the sidelights both sides 80 Euro for drivers side and 110 Euro for passenger (don't have a go for not doing it myself it's a minefield in there. For the passenger side they had to take the wheel off to access it properly, I kid you not, I didn't believe them so they showed me why and I can't see another way of getting to it) Apart from that, no mechanical issues at all. Highly recommended, just not the worlds biggest estate. I think the next car will be a 525d touring. I don't need all the performance and the extra space and economy would be appreciated.

2010 (60 plate) vw fox 1.2
goes well for a first car had it 4 months now and have 9700 miles on it does 58mpg in the town if i drive carefully but on the run to work i get about 38 (all dual carageway at 75-80mph) costs so far i had a punture and a new front was £48 this was 16 miles after getting the car gutted insurance £2700 a year (ha im 18 with only 4 months of no claims) cons none really other than its black so a pain in the ass to keep clean but i have just finnished the polishing and it looks sexy once again

heres mine on classic insurance 170quid fully comp not cost me a penny on parts been all over europe never missed a beat and I can fix it all myself if anything dos go wrong 28mpg but thinking about lpging it

I recently drove a colleague's '09 320d Touring, and was surprised by how pillowy, and disconnected from the driver it felt. Was thinking of changing it, but don't want to drive the cock's car (Audi) and now have no reason to buy a Bimmer. Merc's, Mondeos, Vauxhalls and Toyotas all too big for my needs, and everything else is flawed in some way from my point of view. Just decided not to replace, it, but to run it into the ground. Would recommend it to anyone. |

I don't have any numbers to hand on how much things have cost (I just look the other way and punch my pin number in ) but I'm well pleased with the R32 after 20k miles, to sum up... Good Really good high speed cruiser, big lazy V6 means you're in 6th pretty much everywhere. Pretty much un-stickable even in the wet, puts all it's power down in anything but snow - it could handle another 100+hp no problem. Comfy ride considering it's on 18" wheels, it doesn't rattle your teeth loose. Launch control + 4wd + DSG mean's you're going to win most rounds of the traffic light GP Exhaust note + pop's and bangs Bad It's a lard arse so it's got a bit of a V-Power addiction depending on how you drive it + not as quick as you'd think given the power it has. The boot's only just big enough to get my racing gear in, it's full of diff! The exhaust's are as big as they are to let the bricks of CO2 out the back, top tax bracket. Servicing... bend over. Gazebo's fall on it It needs a new top mount bearing (it's got 48k on it now) but other than that it's been 100% reliable. Those wheels really suit the car Bungleaio, very nice |

Heres my baby
2008 Astra VXR Nurburgring running 317bhp at stage 3 Its pretty good on fuel. Average 26mpg, town driving 22mpg on a run will do 30mpg. Have got it upto 42mpg average crusing at 55mph. Cost so far: Tyres £750 Stage 3 conversion £2200 Servicing £450 and a new gearbox under warranty, would have cost £6000 will need new disks and pads all around soon though Best car ive owned. Last car was a 296bhp mazda rx8 running a race spec engine which averaged 12mpg. Town driving was doing 9mpg. Repairs in a year cost over £5000.

Had my cmax 2lt tdci 5 years now and been really pleased with it. Apart from normal wear and tear items only the intercooler has been replaced.
Costs to date £3006 for break pads all round twice new discs all round once 8 tyres (6 front) 1 battery wiper blades and full servicing costs. Mot and insurance bring it up to £4548 Too reliable to think about changing even though I have strongly wanted a Bmw for ages.
