Default Sydney in November - racing?

Whats going on in November around Sydney? We're coming over from the 9th to the 29th - staying round collaroy for a few days then hiring a car and having a drive round. I don't think I'll have a car with me or anything but I'd not mind checking out whatever tracks might be around

Hi Jimmy,

I can only speak for EP Offroad, but there are three good tracks in Sydney. StIves, Ryde and Castle Hill.

All worth a look.

Can give you more info if you’re interested.

Thanks
Wayne

Yeah I'd like to visit those tracks if they aren't too far out for sure.

jimmy,

you can check the links to the local clubs below:

st ives
http://www.stivesrccc.com

castle hill
http://www.hillsoffroadrc.com

ryde
http://www.sydneyrc.com

they are all within 30 mins drive from collaroy, the furthest being Castle Hill (i reckon). all within suburban area.

all 3 clubs organise fortnightly club racing, on sundays.

Thanks bud. Last time I was on the East coast I tried to find some tracks but couldn't but this was about 2001 or there abouts. I'll make it my mission to visit all these and maybe even take in a race

Checked them out on googlemaps and wow! they are all quite close to each other aren't they.

Other than the couple of toyish model shops in the centre of the city I've seen before, are there any good rc shops around?

yes, the tracks are all within 30 mins of each other.
i think all the tracks have been around for the last 10 yrs.

in terms of hobby shop .. there's one on the Northern Beaches. shop address is below (altho' the website doesn't have any other links.). apparently they have AE stuff .. (never been to the shop myself).

http://www.nbhc.com.au/

if i'm not wrong, the shop is owned by Ari Bakla, multi-national and state champion who has won everything from 1/10 TC, 1/10 offroad to 1/8 buggies.

you should join Ryde for a club day. they've just rebuilt the track. bring some Oople stickers

Default RE: Sydney Visit

Jimmy,

There is a club meeting on at St Ives on the 16th November and Ryde on the 23rd November.

I live about 5 minutes from Collaroy so I would be more than happy to meet up.

Regards

Michael

Not sure club racing normally finishes mid December and starts again late January. I'll find out more on the weekend and let you know. Sometimes clubs run a end of year fun Xmas meeting.

Regards

Michael

the other 3 main EP offroad tracks in NSW are Maitland (2 hr drive north), Illawarra (2 hr drive south) and Canberra (3 hr drive south). there is also the 1/8th GP at Liverpool (1 hr west).

from memory the addresses...
Maitland: Fred Caterson Reserve, High Street, Maitland, NSW
Illawarra: Croome Rd, Albion Park, NSW
Canberra: Narrabundah Oval, Narrabundah, ACT

Maitland would be one of the best tracks in the country and Canberra has the 09 nats.

Jimmy its a shame Im moving back up to the Gold Coast (approx. 900km north) as I would have been happy to pick you up and take you around to all 3 clubs.
For your information 'MHARLOW' would be a great guy for you to meet up with here. He has a wealth of knowledge,a proven race history here in Australia and is a top guy aswell. He also competed is the 89' Worlds alongside many of the worlds best and got some great results. You probably wont find a nicer guy that would be able to show you around.
I am a member of the Ryde club and even though Im not the most competitive driver the track is always in great shape making for some nice laps.
As for St Ives-this is where the worlds were held and for a real taste of nostalgia you can run here any time you like on an almost unchanged track layout since that big event. I personaly like the place because its well shaded with trees and plenty of greenery. Sorry mate, there is not 'astro turf' here-ha ha aha.. Ausralian tracks are mostly good old fashioned 'DIRT'. The U.K. drivers had little idea what to expect when they were here for the 89 worlds. They were far too used to the indoor tracks I think.
I havent run at Catle Hill in many years but from what i hear the track offers a good challenge to even the best of drivers.
Either way all 3 clubs are close by and Im sure someone here will help you out when you are in town.
If you get the chance we are racinga 4 hour vintage buggy enduro down in Melbourne around the same time you are here. Drop me a PM and i'll give you my mobile number and I'll see what we can do to accomodate you.
I'll leave you with some very recent pics of st Ives. Enjoy!
