Ha Ha. Your joking right? The sand viper with a couple of hop ups is definitley not TRF spec. The Durga isn't even TRF spec and it's a hundred times more competitive than the df-02. TRF spec for example is the 501x and the touring car which i think is the 415. Those are both TRF certified. The dt-02 is in no way made for competitive racing. When Tamiya finally comes out with a 2wd TRF buggy you will realize the difference.

would you say that Tamiya are abusing the 'MS' name then?

because the TA-05MS is definatley TRF spec

It isnt, the 415 and 416 cars are TRF spec, then the 501X, there the TRF tamiya cars.

Default MS means Saetoshi Maezumi !

Hi, imho, MS is simply the special version of Tamiya "R/D factory driver" Saetoshi Maezumi. These are specd up kit versions of standard cars, sometimes hopups just thrown in (DT02) or completely different materials used (TA05).
DT02 MS still leaves us pining for a TRF 2WD Tamiya

Either way, regardles of looks/materials used ect, TA-05MS doesnt have TRF in the name and is therefore not TRF, same goes for the DT-02MS.

Does having the letters TRF on the manual and the box qualify then?

The newer generation Tamiya TRF cars & parts are designated a special part number (4210# = TRF).

42101 - TRF Pit Bag Large
42102 - TRF Special Damper Set - Hard Black Coating
42103 - TA05MS
42104 - TRF415MSXX Marc Rheinard Editin 2007
42105 - TRF501X World Championship Edition
42106 - TRF416

I have both a TA05MS & a TRF415MSXX MRE - the quality of materials as well as design on the TA05MS are definitely TRF.

I stand corrected.

But......

Is this thread actually about tamiya touring cars? Nop, its about tamiya 2wd's, the DT-02 MS isnt a comptetative 2wd buggy, if it were then we would be seeing them in our regional/national and internaional races... yet we do not.

Still, for those Tamiya die-hards, it's probably worth having one tucked away somewhere. I'm sure in 20 years somebody will be raving about them much as we do about Avantes and Egresses today.
