K*Paint - Airbrush Adventures
Hi Everyone
A month or so ago I bought myself an Iwata Neo airbrush as I've always loved the idea of spraying my own shells. For the past few weeks I have limited myself to doing one colour shells as I would like to get used to doing even coats and not rush into overly complex designs... but yesterday I made an attempt at my first custom paint job. Overall im pretty pleased, im happy with my orange fading and the sharpness of SOME of my lines, I'm not happy with the black drop shadow on white. and the quality at times with my lines. Any feedback/pointers/C&C is more than welcome....thanks |

Tidy first attempts!
Don't be too hard on yourself, the accuracy with the scalpel and airbrush will come in time. What is it particularly about the black drop shadow that you don't like? - I'm never keen on shading into white - it shows every trace of overspray and can look dirty. How about trying a colour that ties in with the overall scheme, rather than simply black. Less is more too! Cheers Joo

What do you guys use for cleaning Alclad chrome from your brush? Createx cleaner and thinners did nothing to clean it out and took me a good 45mins to get it all out again. |

For cleaning up Alclad paints I use cellulose thinners the Alclad is lacquer based so you'll have to use a suitable thinner such as cellulose which will rip it from your brush in moments. Createx is water based (acrylic) so the thinner for that won't do anything really about lacquer based stuff.
Word of warning tho the stuff stinks so make sure you open up all the windows or if you can clean up outside even better.

My favourite is Tamiya matt lacquer, but plain old Plastikote is fine, Faskoat is pretty good too (Faskolors own).
In all cases, let the paint thoroughly dry for a few days, then only dust it on in light coats, thicker coats on fresh paint seem to make the paint brittle, and prone to chipping off the shell in a knock. cheers J

Latest Project for a friend, My third attempt with an airbrush.
I Had a few problems with the black backing on the chrome peeling up when I removed the masks, i had sprayed RCS chrome, then 2 light coats of black and left to dry overnight before removing the masks. Am I doing anything wrong? |

it is best to spray the chrome last to avoid that problem

Great job buddy
Yes, try to spray chrome last if possible. I have done it before last numerous times but you need to be super careful with your backing and what other colours need to go down after. So yeh, try to spray chrome last if possible. |

Another shell completed for a club member, I REALLY like this one
I tried to subtly splatter some paint into the lighter blue area without overdoing it. |
