Default Micro Racing UK-1/18th-1/16th or 1/14th? Please help.

Hello, I'm looking to get back in to racing RC after a short (12 year.....) break.

I've decided I'd like to have a go racing micro's, but I'm a tad confused and haven't been able to find the info I am looking for.
I'd like to get a micro that is legal to race in BRCA events for the future but the rules and regs info is not available on their website.
Basically, I'm confused as a few scales seem to come under the category of micro, such as 1/18th, 1/16th and 1/14th. Do these all race in the same races under one class or are they separated? Do buggy's and trucks race together also?
And last question, what buggy/truck would be the best option and would allow room to grow and still be competitive without having to look to replace it in the near future?

Thanks in advance,

Dom

Hi
ive been out of micro racing for a couple of years now but il help were I can, check out this website for all your micro info
http://www.microrcracer.com/Forum/
the scale thing can be confusing but its more to do with different manufacturers calling them different things,as far as I know, nobody races 1\18th scale anymore as they are smaller than the newer cars...basically there is
losi mini 8... 1\14 th scale (shaft drive)
lc racing emb 1... 1\14th scale (shaft drive)
carisma gtb...1\16th scale (belt drive)....carisma gt14b is the older shaft drive car
its more to do with the dimensions, and that they conform to the national measurements of wheelbase and width
as to whats best...the emb 1 and carisma are close but the carisma wins the most
hope this helps
Rick

Micros are a cost-effective way of enjoying competitive racing whether you are a novice or an experienced racer.

1/18 cars were the original micro buggys e.g FTX Blaze.
1/16 cars were developments of these. e.g. long wheel base LRP shark.

Around 2010 - 2011 these cars were taken out of production.
At that time, Carisma (better known then for touring and pan cars) introduced a 1/14 buggy.

Faced with the prospect of a class that would die because of lack of cars to race, the BRCA Micro Section altered the construction rules to include the 1/14 Carisma. Later Losi introduced the Mini8 and LC Racing the EMB-1.
These are the cars which now race the BRCA Micro National Series.

Whilst some clubs may still race 1/18 and 1/16 buggys, 1/14 is the current norm.
Many clubs will run a Micro heat if there are enough entries.
Best to have a look at what clubs are doing in your area.

Thank you both for the informative posts! Really helped clear it all up! Was very confusing at first.

I've decided to go down the route of the carisma gtb!

Not wanted to hijack or post inappropriately but I have a very good LC Racing EMB-1 package up for grabs in the For Sale section.
Its a RTR kit with Carisma GTB alloy shocks without the radio and also a brand new in box/packets Kit-this has alloy chassis, shock towers and shocks. The CVD's and a couple of screws have been used on the rtr. Also some other new in packet spares.
Only needs radio gear and a charger-I could throw in a Sprektrum/Losi 2.4 steerwheel tranny and receiver for an oople member!
I had a GTB before this which was good but I preferred the EMB.

If this post shouldn't be here then can a mod remove it please.

Hello, thanks for the offer, but I've decided to go down the route of the carisma gtb. I'm fortunate to live local to Trackside spares who stock these and all the bits which is whats most important for a returning racer like myself! (no doubt going to need spares on tap).

Thankyou for the offer again though, and good luck with the sale!

Default Carisma & Trackside Spares

You have gone for a great team

Paul has a wealth of knowledge and is great with these little cars, guided me recently through buying and what to buy for my sons. Gave me all the do's and don'ts.

Good luck
