Default Call me a Mardave fan...

Great racing tonight chaps!

And I think I've found my fave car, the diminutive GRP rectangle performs so incredibly sweetly!

My qualifying was awful, uncharged battery pack hence the 7th down the grid But I can't fault the little car, I've never driven an RC car that performs quite so wonderfully.

The final was so much fun, battling it out with Charlie was a blast!

Once again, I can't speak highly enough of the Mardave, such a simple machine; no suspension other than chassis flex, caster and ride height adjustable with simple washers. What can I say, I am a convert!

It was quick .. my spares have arrived but I had so much fun with my vw bug that I'll think Ill keep at it with it .. may get some foams as they seem to be the fav in the clubman at the moment...

Not my best finish, but almost go it where I want it handling wise and I so enjoyed the look of it going round ...

Good night lads, clubman rocks - for the most close racing ..

What were the final results?

Scott.

If I remember rightly, I came 4th and Charlie 3rd. 0.3 secs apart or something like that Will check tomorrow, took a pic It was SO close between him and me.

I think Mr Petch 2nd. Can't remember who came 1st, one of the F1s I think.

Well Scott, I might join you in touring sometime with the TL01 Last TL01 roller I bought I paid £7 for. It would be nice to see how the £7 chassis performs against them Schumachers

It was a lucky 2nd for me Gui - may have been helped by being knocked over the track markers (I did at least wait for the car I was behindto come through before setting off again - I think!!)

Think Lee won with his F104.

Big thumbs of to Mr Martin Smith for his excellent track design skills - lets have more of them mate

cheers chris... next time we will actually stick to the track plan that is printed and not changing the track because someone thinks its too fast, track designs are thought out with saftey in mind not just what experienced racers think would suit them..... if you dont like the track plan then pack up your stuff and go to another club (very politely put).... on a lighter note i had some good close racing with everyone last night and id like to think that my 9t motor didnt take the piss too much being offset with the kit tyres i was running. great night last night... its just a shame about all you foam running faries.....

Nicely put..

Tbh some of the tracks I have drawn out have not had safe areas and it was only afterwards that I thought to put them in..

Next week will be another one of yours.

I agree, stick to your guns, the track ended up begin quite crashy due to some of the last minutes additions. Let's try it again in its proper form sometime.

I don't mean to keep on going on about the Mardave, but how's that for consistency?

And the slower laps are all explainable. Lap 2 accident with a blue Mitsubishi and laps 12 to 16 "stuck" behind Charlie's amazingly wide Focus

Loved that battle! And I LOVE that car!!!

The straight in front of the rostrum is always a bad move,if something happens your less likely to see it until it's to late and having a flat out sweeper going into the pit area had a few near misses, the infield looked awesome though

Good point Reg, no track design i have ever done in the years of racing have i put a straight on the podium side running in that direction. The original plan had a chicane but only at the top of the circuit so the problem would of been present anyway!
Fitting additional track markers that put the cars off line on a part of the circuit with less grip and making the track dangerously narrow just made it worse to drive, tho did reduce the speeds slightly!
I would like to thank MSMITH for the designs he does as no one else puts in the time! but that particular one buddy was 3 straights with corners at the end!
Tho you did say you wanted it flowing touring cars would be going at VERY high speed in opposing directions and also flat out heading into the pits, race control and up the straight. With the current track marker conditions they would not stop any cars in those conditions proof of that came from how much they moved last night. Super stocks would of been flat out most of the time possibly getting bored! off road ramp placing becomes an issue due to speed and so on. All cars would have been at full throttle for 90% ish of the track so the possibility of over heating the motors / speedo's becomes a concern, something no racer wants.
In response to Dave "nicely put". losing a club member is never a good thing...no matter how it is put!
Looking forward to a great track next week!

Looks like it will be a fun one mate - glad Max/Colin brought those extra track markers!.

I quite liked the straight in front of the rostrum. There are obvious safety issues with having cars run full pelt towards the pits but the issue was addressed by putting those mini chicanes at either end of it. The tight corner followed by a small chicane coming onto that straight meant that you couldn't simply apply full throttle as you exited the hairpin and the chicane at the end did force people to hit the brakes unless really brave. By putting it on the inside, drivers were forced wide before tuning making them take the proper line.

No track design is ever going to please everybody but I do think track designs should be run/tested before changes are made. Its really easy to break a long wide straight up with a couple of chicanes after the first round if we need to.

I'm not saying it's not fun going flat out Under your feet, what isn't fun is when your car has been smashed into because the person come down the straight can't see it!i was sat watching all night,a lot said it was fun going all the way from the top corner, flat out all the way round to the other end of the hall, but it went very wrong to a few cars and they ended up in the pits, but it's all about listening to what works safely and 99% of the time it works well,

Fair point Mr Shiney

Sometimes seeing tracks from a different point of view works too, ie in a mirror lol..

What spec was the Mardave? I might join you with one next Friday, or maybe even my own creation. Did you run 2s or 1s?

What happens to the track width when those add ins are put in Chris?

= it becomes unplanned and to narrow!

Liking the new track design tho msmith, tho can we fit what is 6 track widths across the carpet while maintaining the right width???????????????????????
If so cool

Martin, Here at Team Shambles nothing is planned!

Dave, So what we could do is stick a 60cm protrusion on the left followed by another on the right 2.4m further down - Mulsanne straight, yeah baby!
