What is the actual issue ? Can you not get bright enough photo's ? If you shoot in RAW you'll be surprised how much detail you can recover.

The main thing isn't the camera though it's the lens. Look at any photographer at a sports event and the physical size of the glass they've got hanging off the end of the camera speaks volumes for this. You need an F2.8 type lens, they don't come cheap though.

You can hire them, if you're going to a bigger indoor event hire one and see what the results are like.

Jimmy's photography on here is always stunning, he's done a tutorial on taking photo's as well, have you seen that ? Clicky

Black as witches tit mate!

Cant remember what the specs are on the glass, Sigma zoom lens and it wouldnt be expensive given my circumstances. I'll give it another go with the standard zoom it came with. I tend to shoot in RAW anyway, I like the option of being able to adjust when required in P-shop etc.

So...shorter lens and crop for effect you think?
I didnt use flash either, not too clever when the guys are running eh?

As mentioned above Get a lens with the biggest f/stop (lowest number)
The smaller the number the wider it aperture opens.

Only issue with that is the wider the aperture the shorter the depth of field is. So you have to be spot on with your focal length.

BTW if your using a cannon and want a budget indoor lens give this a try.
http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-c...ii-lens/p12814

It's only 50mm but excellent value for money at just over £80.00 for an F1.8

Blacker than a witches tit eh... Righty then, what camera are you using ? I'd imagine it has some other settings, firstly I'd try aperture priority, make sure you set the aperture open as wide as you can ( see Cream's description above ), the camera will handle the shutter speed so nice and easy to get along with.

If that doesn't work set it to one of the sport modes or something like that and see if that helps. If it does when you get home and open the images on the computer it will tell you what settings the camera used to recreate that, make notes or memorise the a couple of those settings and try then on manual next time.

I would also try another lens or if you know someone else with the same make of camera as you will they let you borrow a better lens ? Unfortunately in the game of photography what you spend will affect the performance. Just about all current DSLR's will produce good photo's but the glass in front of the sensor will make massive differences, it's never cheap though

Keep trying with this, photography is very rewarding but it takes a lot of practice, see if you can get a 2nd hand lens ? London Camera Exchange are a great chain of shops and often have bargains in that you can try and physically see what it's like before you buy. I'm not sure I'd trust getting a used lens from ebay but it might be worth a try.

The other thing you could look at is a fast ( as in f2.8 ) lens which is manual focus, you'll have to be a bit quicker with the camera settings but that might help with the amount of light you're getting into the camera.

Keep us updated how you get on, you'll get there in the end !

I've bought a few off e-bay and so far so good, I couldn't keep up with my lens addiction if I was paying full price for them all

used

It sounds like your lens isn't letting in enough light. What's the maximum aperture size of the lens you are using?
You'll need a faster lens with a big aperture, like the cheap Canon f/1.8 example, or nikon f/1.4 equivalent. A prime lens with aperture below f/2 would be desired. An 85mm f/1.8 would be a good focal length to try.

wouldnt bother in our hall mate
i have a tamron f2.8 on my nikon and even at 3200 iso it was dark n grainy. the lights in the hall just dont focus the light down enough for fast shutter speeds sadly.

hoping once summer comes the natural light will help
tis a bummer i know

Cheers Kenny!

Cameras bang on outdoors, sport mode on a rapid launch jack russell NP.

Have to agree with you fellas too, light over mag innit?
Might have a wander down the higher res and then blow up on P-shop road.
