F1 Yawn
After canada, yesterday has to be the most boring race yet.
Vettel cannot race and will not be a worthy champion. He just happens to be in the fastest car. Look at him two years ago when he had to go wheel to wheel he could,nt hack it and kept crashing into everyone. After watching F1 since 1993 its getting boring now. I want to see racing not a single fast car flying off into the distance.

Agreed, why dont they introduce weight/ winning penalties like they do in touring cars, ie the more they won the more ballast gets added to the car !

Better still, use tracks that encourage overtaking, this year has been good up to yesterday....

Partly agree here, it was a boring race yesterday.
RedBull/Vettel is too outstanding now. Still, you gotta give him credit for his speed... just look at Webber in the same car... Still agree though that Vetell did some stupid moves last year. Passing is not his biggest strength Even though we have the tires and DRS catering for a lot of passings, we wanna se a battle for the win... this is beginning to look a lot like those boring seasons when Schumi/Ferrari were totally unbeatable... They might as well hand him the trophy now...

you say he's unbeatable, but alonso Kept him honest yesterday. Maybe Vettel was taking it easy, but i doubt that, he normally flies off into the distance if he gets the chance...
not a big fan of the valencia circuit, i'd rather they swapped it for Nurbergring or somewhere else in europe

I for one do not like DRS whats the point it gives false overtaking as the car in front cannot defend against it. Off throttle blowing will be banned from next race.
jenson is 77 points behind vettel and with red bull reliability (on Vettels car) I just cant see any other outcome to the season. Both JB and LH are not looking forwards to Silverstone as they both say they cannot compete. F1 has put too many rules into the sport and are slowly strangling it to death. The new tyres at first seemed a good idea but when a driver cannot race full speed because his tyres have gone is again spoiling a good race. Its ok saying he should be able to preserve his tyres but I want to see RACING not how well a driver can make his tyres last.

It's not easy...
Agreed on DRS! More overtaking yes, but it's a bit to "artificial" for my taste. The tires give more realistic overtaking, but often there the difference in grip is so high making also those overtakes a bit silly... The best thing for wheel-to-wheel racing would be rules more similar to GP2 or INDY with standadized cars & engines. Plus maybe a "power to pass" (as used in Indy), where both the attacker and defender can press their buttons - it's more about using it wisely. But we need cars of course with much higher performance, similar to the current F1 cars. Would also reduce costs massively. But the problem is that F1 is the pinncale, and is "supposed to be" free'ish... But does the fans really care? As long as they are as fast as today, look the same... who cares really? I can live without the constant upgrading & development... I want to se ALL teams and racers battling for the victory in EVERY race!!! I really feel sorry for all those great drivers stuck in a crappy car! Imagine all the cost & hard work to get into F1... and then... Development? All teams could work together on next year's platform, and develop fuel saving / hybrid systems and so on... And the only thing I'd love to downgrade is the brakes! Use more std. material = get hotter = longer brake distance >> lots of overtaking possibilities!!!

I want to see refueling return. See Massa charging down the pit lane with a flaming fuel hose attached was ace .

there is talk to double the kers gain which would give some more tactical feel to overtaking if the guy in front has blown all his kers and you still have a full charge

Except for the fires, refueling was rubbish. The cars just overtook each other in the pits rather than out on track. I'm glad it went. |

Collective short term memory loss?
Bahrian, 2010, first race without refuelling - snorefest. Cue multiple posts in every corner of the internet, and articles in the press, saying this is terrible; F1 is dead, bring back refuelling, etc., etc. One processional race and we are back to the same. In over 30 years of following F1 and racing RC cars, one thing is totally clear - you cannot level the playing field or artificially create situations that don't occur on their own. Get rid of the tyres that degrade, the flappy wing thingys, the KERS and all that other stuff. Go back to flat front wings, curved undertrays and side pods, and single plane rear wings. Let the whole car smooth the airflow and reduce by a mile the deficit of running in dirty air. Now the guys can drive the wheels off their cars, because they are just like Indy cars that have no trouble following each other in dirty air, but they'll be heaps faster being lighter and having carbon brakes. F1 is the most highly regulated class of motor sport on the planet, because having unfettered Rules means we would have traction control, active suspension and about 2000bhp - too dangerous, yet too easy to drive fast. If we could only have more input on Rules from the engineers... Just my 2p. |

Short term memory?
Apart from the last "average" race this has been the best season for years!

still, if they want cars to overtake there is still only one way of making it happen more often..... increase braking distance so that people are given back the opportunity to overtake under braking

or just let them race on big ovals like in the states

...using cars that have to have steel brakes that lengthen the braking distances to make it easier to overtake, and aerodynamics that allow them to follow closely in 'dirty' air yet still make the pass.
It's not the track, it's the car, which was my point... |

Its not the cars that make the races boring.
There have been some good close races this year. When the DRS zone is in the right place it works....but I don't like it whatever. Double the Kers and use Steel brakes. Regarding the last race....Its the Valencia Circuit that makes it boring. You look back at all the races we've had there. After 3/4 laps the field spread is ridiculous! You look down the field and theres an even gap between all the cars....give or take the odd exception. Certain circuits make for good racing others don't because the cars are not suited to them. But overtaking is what its all about. Proper overtaking, not this DRS crap style of overtake. There will always be the odd boring race, but thats not a reason to write the season off just yet. Yes, Vettell could miss 4 races and still mathematically lead the world championship. But stranger things have happened. |
