Have you finally got a predator then I think you can 3d print anything but I've never seen anything from a 3d printer so not sure what the finish etc is like

As far as I understand from what I have read into it 3D quality finish is good BUT the 3D parts are made of basic plastic thus are quite fragile, great for a shelf queen but not so good for a runner

Depends very much on the printing method and material of choice. The Nylon I use for the FWD Buggy is not far off from injection moulded parts in terms of strength. Instead, the main difference is flex: The printed material is not fibre reinforced, so it flexes considerably more unless you change the design accordingly

Don't expect that quality from FDM (filament) or other DIY printers though. Instead, if you have 3D models of the parts you need, you can have them printed at companies that offer these high-quality printing methods.

Highly recommend SLS printing, was well happy with my gear box results.

they can use graphite even carbon in it so makes it much more resilient

if you have a design check out 3dhubs

Had a few bit printed by Shapeways - my Maxxum steering arms survived a day of racing at Iconic Revival, so process can produce fairly robust parts.

as orb says, nylon makes really strong parts, you have to design them to reduce the amount of flex though, the wishbones on the front of my 2wd are printed in nylon and apart from not looking so pretty are still good enough to do another year... printed fdm on a home printer too.

I use Pro/e Wildfire, but anything capable of outputting to .stl will be ok, certainly for Shapeways
