DEX 210 RTR standard gearing
Hi all
The car comes with an 81t spur and 29t pinion. to be fair I have only driven it up my street briefly before racing it indoor this Friday. It has reasonable punch off the line but the top end seems a little low. Does the gearing mentioned above indicate high acceleration coupled with a lower top end, or would this be typical of a 13.5t motor? Thanks all

My rtr 210 is very slow in a straight line compared to the others im racing against. Around the corners and shorter sections its fine but on the straight I have to move to one side and let everyone past haha.. I have just taken delivery of a 9.5T motor (the lowest turn the stock esc can handle), and fitting it as we speak! So im going to see how it fairs now before messing around with gearing as spur gears and pinions cost what, around 8 each, New 9.5T speed passion motor from rcmart 26 delivered
 Maybe there is someone at your race meet who can point you in the right direction with gearing as it is going to differ from track to track.

I have the 210 rtr and am just considering upgrading to a 9.5 turn motor, so how did you guys get on? And what advice can you give me?
What motor is best for this car/most powerful (as I assume not all 9.5 are the same) and what did you decide on for gearing in the end? Cheers guys!

My RTR was dog slow in a straight line. I bought the SP 9.5t motor from rcmart and it makes a substantial difference to the straight line speed, I had to completely rebalance the car by moving the battery (shorty) as far forward as possible and adding some weight to stop it wheeling and almost flipping over.
Took it to a large astro track a couple of weeks ago and it was a totally different proposition on the track, more more competitive and still rode the bumps nicely balanced. I was doing ok until the RTR servo died for no reason and I didnt have a spare, now swapped to a savox low profile. I'm still running the stock RTR gearing.

Get yourself a bag of pinions from hobbyking or similar (21 thro 26 maybe). I pay a couple of dollars each for them, so I add a couple to most orders I make. Brings the shipping weight up to the limit nicely!
Get a couple of spurs (one bigger than stock, one smaller) and you should be set for the next year's racing and a couple or three different motors.

Yep agree turnigy are good motors, I've been using the 21.5t and 13.5t version in a Supastox. I guess it depends on whether you want to resolder or keep the nice recessed bullets that come on the Speed Passion Cirtrix RTR ESC, the RCMart SP motor is plug and play.

I ordered the 9.5t speed passion from RC mart also with a Savox 1258, I am just ordering a couple more Turnigy shorties from Hobbyking and want to understand what pinions I need to order...
So Mattr said one small and one larger spur, I've ordered an 80spur from RCmart so I'll order a 79 from Hobbyking and Pinion wise Mattr suggested 21 thro 26... should these not relate to the existing pinion as well? So as the standard pinion is a 29 so shouldn't I buy a 28 and 30? Also what are the pitch and mm figures on the pinions? Cheers guys!

I'd have probably gone for something like a 78 and an 83 or 85 to give a bit of range round your stock 81.
You sure the 80 you've ordered is durango compatible? And the durango cars (210/410) use 48DP pinions and spurs. The original set up will be optimised round the 13.5 turn motor. Using similar size ratio with a 9.5 turn motor will have you miles out. There are some charts to show optimum gear ratios for various motors, you might have to search for it (petitrc is a good resource for things like this)

tbh Mattr I really don't know if its Durango compatible or not...
What does is 48DP mean? Degrees pitch? Sorry Mattr I am completely new to this, could send me a link on hobbyking to what I should be buying because I am a little confused!! Thanks again for all your help buddy!!

You need the 3,175mm pinions. (Refers to the motor shaft diameter, 5mm are usually for short course or 8th scale)

(Micheal is one of the better Durango stockists) As an aside, it *might* be worth getting yourself a pinion or two from a UK supplier just to get yourself going (unless you are already waiting for stuff!)

http://durangofansite.com/gearing.html From looking through I think if we leave the 81 spur and changed the 29 pinion down to a 25 or 24 we should be quite close with the 9.5T motor, but I assume these are just starting points though as they wouldn't match up with the standard gearing on the rtr... Unless I am reading it wrong! Have any of you guys that swapped to the 9.5 had a play with gearing yet?
