Servo mounting in an original kyosho optima?
Other than using double sided tape and a few cable ties, does anyone have any good ideas or mods for improved mounting of the steering servo in an original optima? I can never get it to mount in such a way that there is no play and as such my tracking always seems a little "loose" as the servo moves slightly

My Turbo Optima runs pretty solid with double sided tape and tie wrap mounted servo.
http://vimeo.com/91021555 The key is to use tape with a thin "core" I think. Some double sided tape have quite a bit of foam between the sticky layers, and this foam allows flex. Great for reducing vibrations for electronic parts, but lousy for mounting a steering servo. Also sure that there also isn't too much play on the bell cranks? If these have some play, they can "rock" on the metal posts and this makes the steering sloppy. I used some small shims from 3Racing to reduce play, while still keeping the bell cranks moving smoothly. This reduces play and drag on the moving parts. |

I run the original tape and cable tie on mine with no probs, you could work a way to screw it in but I prefer original as possible, just had mine out for a run yesterday

You need a different top deck for that, and move some things around. With the original setup the battery sits behind the servo, on the Optima Pro the battery sits more to the front. Last edited by Peakey; 31-10-2014 at 06:35 AM. |

Araldyte it is then
I got quite excited that there may be an official kyosho screw mount, but if that requires a different top plate I will hold the thought on a back burner. I am currently away from my optima so will take a look at the slop when I get back as that could be a factor - certainly the servo doesn't look to be too insecure, so this could be another factor Thanks all

BITD I used double sided tape and shrink wrap around the servo and support. Pretty neat and cheap!

There is a member on rc10talk that used a standard top deck and the speed control mount hole to relocate his servo

That is a nice solution. No modding required on vintage parts.
