What gearing are you running on your 511?
I posted another thread yesterday about keeping my motor temps down after it got really hot on the weekend. Running indoors on a X12 7.5t and using a 17T pinion. Outdoors i tend to use a 18T and have never had heat issues.
What gearing does everyone else run on their cars. Would be interesting to know. P.S, im using the std 91t sized spur gear. |

I use a 20t on a 91 spur on a 5.5 and temps are not too bad

So on a 7.5t ive always assumed your go higher on the pinion due to less revs and more torque, if your using a 20T on a 5.5, a 21/22t would make sense on a 7.5 motor, or am i completely wrong?
I only ask as i ran mine on a 17/91 on a 7.5 motor and it wasnt reving out on the straight and had good punch out of corners, ive always been told to gear so the motor runs out of puff at the end of the straight? |

them LRP motors get super hot anyway!!
also depends on track grip and size. Lee

Running on a really tight high(ish) all carpet track, do you think my gearing sounds ok Lee?
Just trying to make sure im not overlooking something stupid, should also have a heatsink and fan by nexy weekend to try, see if that helps. |

I know I'm only driving a DB01, but the gearing is the same AFAIK.
I use a 7.5t Novak motor and I use between a 19t and 21t depending on how tight things are. I get the feeling a 17t is too small, but I could be wrong. |

I'd go as far as a 23T with a 7,5 to use the torque better.
And LRP's get amazingly hot no matter what you do. |

Cheers guys, sounds like im really undergeared then, will try a 20t Sunday and see what difference it makes.
Andy did suggest a 20T on Sunday, i think this was part of his plan to try and disadvantage me, but i still kicked his arse. (with a little nudge.lol) |

We have a nice indoor astro track (60'x100') and while one of my friends is running his 511 w/upgrade kit with 7.5T Reedy Sonic - he's running 26/91! And he wishes he had more space for a taller pinion, I'm running an LRP 6.5T at 18/87 (no upgrade kit) - I'm going to put the 91T back in it - but we're 8 teeth difference! Are the Reedy motors that much of an RPM motor vs. the LRP X12's? Or is the the revised ratio doing all the work? I had a 20T in it originally and she got up to 200* during one qualifier - added a fan, dropped two teeth and she's in the ball park now - 130*-160*.
Thoughts? |

I'm using the upgrade kit and have an X20 6.5 which is a beast... I'm running 17/87 which is LRP recommended (~11:1) but I'm not able to wind out to top speed on the straights I have access to (>20m) and my motor is running cool - which as noted above is unheard of for an LRP... I clearly need to give it more work to do... I have new 87 and 91 machined spurs on order so when I get those I'll play around (with various pinions). |
