For those that have got the diffs, does the instructions list the part numbers of the spare parts (like the gasket and planetary gears)?

on onroad I have run a gear diff since January and it hasn't needed any new parts. Obviously off road could be a bit more harsh on the gears but I would think they would last a fair while.

at $21US for a gear diff, you cannot complain really even if you have to buy a new gear diff every few months.
It would cost you just as much with new carbide/ceramic balls, thrust assemblies, yet you wouldn't have the consistency of a gear diff. |

I'll probably end up doing that, get a whole spare unit in a few weeks time. Just thought I might be able to get some spares in the meantime 'just in case' as knowing my luck I'll end up stripping a gear on my first run......

I finished building my diffs yesterday. Thought i'd give them a spin on our new track today.
Built them as in the manual using 2 shims per side and with the oil supplied by tamiya which is too thin. Ran 2 packs, or better abused the car for 2 packs, and the rear diff isn't sounding and feeling healthy anymore. Popped a drive shaft twice so that might have influenced things. Gonna open the rear diff up when I have the time to see what's wrong. Probably gonna use 3 shims next time and add some more spacers in my dampers.

I've had 1 race meet with mine, and there one of my gear diffs are leaking a little, and I have 20k oil in there. Diff was built with green slime.

Mine have done just under an hour...they both leak, but are also silly smooth and consistent. Tbh, if your good at building ball diffs I'm not sure they are advantage, but they definitely help someone like me!

Mine lasted for a few runs at the MK GP but then stripped the gears in the rear on my TQ run... LOL (haven't opened them up yet...).
Just got new gear sets in the post so i'll rebuild them soon, the question is: last time I used 1 extra shim on one side as it felt notchy with 1 each side. How many shims have you guys been trying? Do they need the extra shims to make it super tight? Mark

If your diff is notchy after just a few runs you have either made it way too tight or not shimmed it well enough.
]With the gear diffs you dont want to tighten the screws really tight. That will mess up the gear diff. You just want to tighten it until the screws feel seated. I drop a bit for green slime in mine and dont get any leaks. On the buggy I use 2 shims each side, on my TC i now use 3. I've been trying to find an issue in the drivetrain and realized today that my rear diff fouls against the rear shock tower! Anyone else had this issue?

Getting a DB01R and have read many recommendations to switch to the 51286 differential joints as a stronger upgrade on the ball diffs.
Would it be a better option to just switch to the 54329 Gear diffs? The complete gear diff 54329 is cheaper than the 51286 out drive. What am I missing ? newb |

hi folks, just had a question about these diffs. after I've built them and installed them but when I set them up in the car the wheels don't turn, has anyone had this problem, Im talking about trying to turn both rear wheels in the same direction, the diff works fine spin one outdrive and the opposite one turns in the other direction but once in car and the belt goes on the wheels don't spin, any help would be great
