Default 10.5 in a X4pro

hi all

im pondering the idea of using a 10.5 at the next worksop meeting just wondered what pinion to try as a basic starting point, i currently use a 6.5t with a 21t pinion...
i found i wasnt much slower when i took my time after breaking a drv shaft..... (actually did the same number of laps with only 3wd )

not sure on the internal ratio of the x4 pro but i ran a 10.5t in my x2c at worksop on a 29t pinion. Was excellent infield but just lacked a little bit on the straight.

not sure either but i know the spur on the x2c is 80t and the x4 is 85t, the straight worries me a little too, 4wd do tend to go like **** off a shovel down the straight...

cheers

i run a 10.5 in my x2c indoors and have done also outdoors, turbo is the answer (ran 10.5 at the TC nationals), at tichfield with a 10.5 i ran a 23t pinion and 15deg of timing on the motor and 30deg of turbo, fast as you would want it, there is more mechanical drag with 4wd but should be ok.
what motor and speedo ?

Hey Dave you want to start with a 80/27 (Based on an Epic Duo 3 10.5)

It means modifying the slipper to get the 80 spur from the X2/X2C in. This is an irreversible modification but you can run the 86 from the truck/SC if you feel the need to go higher in the future.

So what you need to do is file back the little bumps that go in the large hole of the 85 spur so it all sits flat. (see pic below) use the slipper pads from the X2 also and it all fits just nice (close to the teeth on the spur but fits nice).

I've taken it a step further to be able to use AE spurs but its a little more complicated as they are thinner and of course the outer rim of the hub needs to fit inside the hex. Been doing some work for the team that run 17.5 non boosted class.

Hey Rob,

Oh no sorry this random pin is very necessary the 2 pins in the middle lock the slipper hubs so they don't slip and lets the pads do their job while the outside 2 hold the outdrives in place.

The only advantage of this mod is flexible spur gears.

i see what your getting at there rob i never understood that pin that basically stopped it all slipping this mod does in a way remove it yes also if you wish to go back to ansmann spurs then if you place onf of the small bearings out of the center of the x2c diff in the hole in the spur then put it all back together then you have a working slipper again as the bearing is now doing the job of the lip on the slipper plates

i hope thats clear :s

Default 3rd pin

Hey Rob/Karl,

You both refer to a 3rd pin that I maybe dont have.
The slipper's in both my cars have 4 pins in the shaft. 2 are for the outdrives the other 2 are for the plates do you have a 5th hole/pin?
