Return to Racing!!!!!
Well they say you always want to come back don't they !!!!
Well that's what I want to do must be 4wd!!!! My question is this if you had around 500 to spend on a 4wd set up !!!! Need everything !!! New I should never sold my stuff !!!! Thanks for all your help.

Get to your local club, see what's being run there, have a chat with the guys racing on that track and what they're running, they're your best bet.
This is a great forum but as is the way of forums everyone is going to rave about their car. Just about everything you can buy nowadays is decent stuff so if you stick with one of the known names - Schumacher, Assosciated, Kyosho, Durango, Tamiya and Ansmann you should be okay ! As for all the other gear you need, it's mostly personal preference. Sticks / Wheel ? ESC - the ORCA combo's are good for Brushless Motor and ESC together. Get to your nearest club, get some info together, find out what you can afford then maybe post back here and see what people think of your choice.

Also!!!! I have never ran brushless and lipo before so have no idea what to get or how to understand them
 what should I be looking for last time I raced I was using a 12 turn with 4200's but no idea really what I would need now !!!!!

I think you'll do well to get everything you need within that budget if you're buying new.
When 10.5 brushless 'stock' motors came out, they were meant to be the equivalent of 19t brushed motors but were more like the old 12t brushed in many cases. Most people seem to use 6.5t brushless in 4wd. Brushless motors are very much 'fit and forget' nowadays. As long as you remember to to oil the bearings every now and then, that's about all there is to it. Battery wise, LiPo's are a lot more expensive than Nimh's that you would have used before but they are much easier to look after - as long as you treat them right. Some people even manage a days racing on just one LiPo pack. You just run them and charge them up again straight away. Speedos and motors are a lot more reliable than they used to be and so I think you could save a lot of money by buying second hand. That could be said for the car too. As said, I would get down to a local club and see what people run there so that you can see what all the different technology is and ask questions as you go. HTH

Agreed, I've just returned myself and the electrics are definitely more powerful and reliable than they used to be. I bought a RTR and upgraded but have ended up with a complete replacement set of gear so you would be better to look around first and then take the plunge.

As said any of the regular make of buggys are great nowadays, but to get everything new and in budget will be tight!
I think the cheapest competition 4wd buggy's the Durango 410R for £175. Then you could get an Etronix Pulse radio (assuming you use sticks?) for ~£80. Hobbywing Xerun 120amp brushless combo ~£110 from HK (or £150 from the uk) plus an Intellect lipo or similar, also from HK ~£45. A 240/12V charger like the Core Uac50 ~£50 and a lipo charging sack ~£5 SC0252 Savox steering servo ~£30 Plus a set of tyres and foams (as they don't come with the car) ~£20 Close at £515!

That's why I said Ansmann as they're cheap and it will get you going.
Why MUST it be 4WD ? Have you tried 2WD ? It's a more popular class as it's a bit cheaper to run throughout the year. If you're on a budget this isn't bad kit to get you started, could be cheaper but if you go too cheap you'll end up with rubbish ! ORCA ESC & Motor Combo is about £130 Steering Servo - Savox SC-0254 Metal Geared £27 Spektrum DX3C Wheel Radio ( includes RX ) £75 Core RC UAC50 (12/240V) £50 Lipo Saddle Pack £75 That's just to give you an idea of price, I don't use ebay or buy from Hong Kong and I'm sure plenty of people can advise you on that and how much cheaper it is, just to give you an idea though that's just shy of £360, which leaves you £140 for a car. 4WD you won't get much for that... In the Ansmann range the X4 Pro is £170 or you could go a bit cheaper with the Blizzard which is only £107. Yokomo's B-Max4 is £184 Otherwise if you want Schumacher, Kyosho or Associated you're looking at around £300. If you can get a Durango the 410R is super cheap for what it is but that's still £191. So you could look on here for a used car or maybe used radio / charger or anything else you feel comfortable buying used. OR you could try 2WD, the basic Schumacher Cougar is £134, it's not the carbon fibre one but it's a quality kit, good back up and spares and within your budget. Alternatively I think all the Ansmann 2WD's are within your budget. Aside all this though I really would get down to your local track, see what is used most locally, speak to the drivers and ask questions, they'll tell you what's good and what isn't. If you buy something we suggest on here and go to your local track to race it and are the only one there racing that particular car if you break it chances you're day's racing ends, if you get something that a few others have you might be able to borrow a spare ?

Also, you can pick up second hand pt's for 40 ish, speedos around the 100 mark, even cars to save a fortune. As doddy says, you don't need to spend a fortune on gear, talent will always outweigh it.

Do you have to buy new? A couple of sensible 2nd hand purchases should see you meet your budget.
I have recently started from scratch again, as I also sold all my kit a few years back. I've managed to get set up with everything for about £550 I think.

yes,buying second hand normally brings the price down,either way a ESC is a ESC and radio is radio.new or used they will do the same thing.the only thing really that you will need to buy new is the car or a very well looked after car as you don't want one which has slop or been well used.
i bought my stuff used and got it under £400 hotbodies d4 = £85 novak gtb = £30 speed passion 5.5 = £20 radio gear,etronix pulse stick = £40 hitec 5665mh servo = £25 intellect saddles = £30 lrp vtec 5900 saddles = £35 ansmann xbase charger £45 spare set of wheels and tyres = £15 total cost is approx £325. its not the gear in the car thats going to make you win,its how you drive and how your car is set up. best way is as others have said,get down to your local club and ask whats good and what going etc,as i kno my car is old so i doubt you will see a d4 on the track. buying a car that others have would be an advantage as you could borrow spares if need be Quote:

other stuff I would go for - a decent second hand tx in good condition - 2.4ghz up to £100 Speed Passion LPF esc - 89.99 Motor - 6.5 or 5.5 Speed Passion, Orca, Trinity to name a few. 1 set of BRCA legal cells. I use the SMC 5200mah 60c's lipos Savox servo
