Default New Indoor Venue - 1st meeting 20th Feb

We have now managed to get things sorted for indoor meetings at our new venue.

Address: Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre, Cleckheaton BD19 3AQ
(2 minutes from J26 of M62)

Meetings will run on Sunday afternoons and the hall is booked from 1 pm - 6 pm.

First set of meeting dates as follows:
20 February 2011
27 February 2011
6 March 2011
20 March 2011
27 March 2011

Track building and clearing will need to be done within this time so the more people that arrive to help set up will enable us to get racing started earlier and give time for practice and more racing time.

The number of qualifying rounds will depend on the time available but we would hope to get 4 rounds + finals. An example of a 5-heat club meeting could be:

Track building and practice time + booking in 1 pm - 2pm
Rd 1 - 2 pm
Rd 2 - 2.40 pm
Rd 3 - 3.20 pm
Rd 4 - 4.00 pm
Finals - 4.50 pm

This would then leave approximately 30 minutes to clear track away and load equipment into cars at the end of each meeting.

We will be asking for your assistance to do this. It is important to help at any club meeting that you attend - majority of clubs run on a voluntary basis for your benefit so to give a few minutes back to the club by helping with the track before and after racing is much appreciated at any club.

The container which stores the track markings etc is situated at the side of the sports centre and is in a locked area. We have been told that we can use this locked area to park our cars - access to the hall that we are using would be through the fire exit doors and would avoid having to carry your racing gear too long a distance. You can, however, use the main car park.

Race fees:
Members - £5
Non-members - £7
Under 13s - £3 (if members of the club)

Club Membership for 2011 is:
Adults £7
Under 13s - £2

BRCA Membership: £13 (via Club)
BRCA Membership: £15 (direct to BRCA)

It is to your advantage to become a club member as it is £2 cheaper to race at each meeting.

As the hall is not being used for netball sessions on Sunday and it is our first meeting we have been allowed an extra hour from 12 noon - 1 pm. We need this time to sort the new track markings, carpets, jumps and cut equipment to appropriate sizes etc. If anyone would like to help during this time then please come along.

I must stress that drivers will not be allowed into the hall with equipment during this time - this is track preparation time only.

If you do not intend to be involved with this then please do not arrive until 1pm.

An advantage of this venue could be that if the weather is poor in the summer and the hall is available, we may be able to race indoors and not have to cancel meetings as it is only a few minutes from the outdoor track.

We are looking forward to some good meetings and welcome all drivers to join us.

Dianne

Just add some further info:

The new sports hall is a similar size to what the club had previously at Batley Sports and Tennis centre.
The flooring appears also to be similar polished floor surface to what was at BSTC. The club will lay a multi surface (floor/carpet mix) track with the usual jumps / features so we would also expect tyre choice to be similar.

It is indeed really great news - nice & regular racing

Just gutted that I won't be able to race this Sunday (Dad's 65th) ... but will deffo pop along for an hour to watch.

Then quite fancy letting my little ones have a run, if there is a nice steady kids heat.

Only another week to wait !

Well dones all round to those involved ... Dianne, John, Steve etc

We are definitely trying to promote racing for youngsters at the club. We have a few under 13s now and if we can get regular attendance from them we intend to try to keep them together. If only a couple of them turn up then we would put them in the best possible heat for them.

I have had positive feedback from a few dads who want to bring their younger sons to race meetings so let's hope this happens.

With an annual club membership fee of £2 and only £3 to race we hope this will encourage dads to bring sons with them.

We decided not to consider the Worksop dates when organising a calendar as it would not have left many free dates. Our aim is to try to get back to running good club meetings where drivers can spend a few hours racing in the afternoon rather than the long Sundays that come with one-day meetings and still get the same amount of racing.

We are racing the week after on the 27th and would be happy to see you then.

These sort of meetings also provide a friendly & relaxed time for people new to the hobby to try their hand.

Worksop / Chadderton type races perhaps a bit overwhelming for a new racer.

Looks impressive and much closer to me than Bury too. Think the time of races will suit those with family commitments too. Interesting comments re younger drivers too, how young can they start realistically?

I'll try and pop along and have a look, really want to start racing again soon, but time not my friend these days!

Assume mains power available?

Well done all, it looks cracking!

my daughter Hannah will make her debut before her 7th, and Jaber's son Isaac runs too, and he's 6yo, born within days of Hannah.

Thank the Lord for end point adjustment !

.... not just sons Dianne. Hannah, and I quote, wants to "beat those boys!". Watch out Isaac!

Oh yes.... he was 3 when I gave him a go on the Lazer and I thought I had left the 27t in it, but was a 12x2. Still, front braces and wishbones are cheap....

He is 6 in a couple of months, so maybe not so far off for him as I thought... will try and pop along Sunday for a nosey, and well done all once again.

I think club meetings should be held all year round, regardless of clashes with big meetings or not. Kids need the week in week out routine to stay interested.

Correct there Wayne!
That's what we try to do at York and I think it works. We're lucky enough to have a few top/upper level drivers at York, but they're the ones who race at the club the least because they (justifiably) need to compete elsewhere. It's the younger members and the ones who turn up week in week out that are the key members

Not something that I personally asked about but I would be surprised if there isn't.
