Default Heat-Problem

hi guy's

i run a fantom 10x2 checkpoint can with ib 4200er shv cells and a sphere comp. in my yoke, as you can see on the pic i cool my esc with a fan and cut the holes to cool the motor.
i have it geared with the original spur gear 84t and a 14t pinion.
i diden't those prob's with the xx-4, why do i get them here? is my gearing wrong or what? i don't get it.

what do you guy's mean?

I dont have the car anymore so its been a while, but you sound way under geared to me. I dont own anything like that sort of pinion so I was running around 20t on a 11x1 (from memory) and it was fine.

Someone will jump in who actually runs the BX and help you more than I can, but your motor would get very hot if you are undergeared.

Just a thought, you dont actually say what the problem is, just that it is heat..

If it is the ESC then that could be something else. I have run the sphere with a 3* and it was fine, I ran it with a 10x1 brushed motor and it thermalled out on me.

Yokomo gives a 17t pinion with the kit expecting people to use 10x2, 11x2 motors so I would guess you are way under geared. I run a checkpoint 9x2 in my BX and I use a 16t pinion with no issues.............

Bathy uses 17 or 18 in his cars. They don't get stupid hot, but still have plenty of beans!

Is your tranny free enough ?
I have read that belt tension is too high with the stock settings.

I think this is probably just a case of massivly undergearing the car, not the actually car itself. Although running the motors that hot would have seriously burnt the comm. Get it cut and new brushes, check the tranny, but i suspect its just the gearing.

Hello Guy's

Thanks for so much helpfull replies,

well i don't run the belt tensioner, and the car itself ran once on dirt, i use the xx-4 till i got a second yoke-kit for spares. i guess it's just way undergeared... i'll try out this weekend till i get it cooled.

i posted the stuff i run in the car too cuz snce i got the shv cells... the electrics get even hotter...

Ended up putting a 16x3 in the checkpoint can and geared it at 84/22.
Ran fine and at the end of my run it tempted at 138-140dg. I ran the fastest heat of the day with it. The pinion comes REALLY close to the steering servo. You can just fit a sheet of paper in between the pinion and servo.....
