Default Suspension Arm Slop

Building up a kit at the moment and as always having mounted the wishbones/hingepins to the car, there is some forwards/backwards play in the wishbone. I've never bothered doing this but do people add more spacers/washers to remove it, or as long as it's not a silly amount is it not too important?

Well, a little front/backwards movement is okay. For me, it should be no more than 0.5mm. I even use o-rings to remove the play because it provide a cushioning effect when it moves.

I always shim, don't know whether it makes any performance difference but certainly doesn't make things worse - in fact on the Durga, shimming stops the hinge pins falling out in crashes.

0.5mm is a rather larger tolerance - I shim to 0.1mm which is the size of the smallest shims in my pack. Parts should move freely under their own weight after shimming. O-rings are a no-no for me as shims as once compressed they cause extra friction, like putting a rubber brake block on the parts.

Shimmy says no shimmage, makes the car very good over bumps

I dont think shimming down to 0.1mm will make any difference in off road, the track is different every lap so you really wouldn't notice any difference in the car.

I know of several superstars who would rather use a sloppy car to a brand spanker
