Default B4 diff width

Did the diff width ever get wider in the Associated B4 cars?

I have just bought a B4 with a load of spares but can’t seem to get the gear casing to close with the width of the diff

B4s had imperial outdrives and bearings,
B4.1&.2 had metric ones (all the rest imperial) so maybe a crossover of parts?

The gear diff will only fit a B4.1/2 case and not the earlier B4.
