Default motor and esc timing

Hi all, I have basic understanding of this, and realise that for example 10 on each would mean 20 degrees overall

my ESC is a hobbywing V2.1 xerun, seems quite basic, and paired it with an 8.5 V10 hobbywing motor, seemed right to keep them paired.

its all in a B5m

anyway I was wanting to get a bit more go out of it, theres no turbo, so I guess it comes down to timing,

whats best, all on motor, all on ESC or combination of both??

Have you tried advancing the timing on the motor? It's quick and easy thing to try.

However I started at 10% on boost and turbo and then settled on 15% on both with 30% on motor. Made a difference from stock setup

Quite the opposite, you have one of the more advanced ESCs that are available. If you have no boost or turbo then it must have the no timing software installed.

If you don't have one, get the multifunction LCD program box which will allow you to access all settings in the ESC, and it is also the interface to connect the ESC to a PC to load in the latest Modified software to give you the boost and turbo options as well as software designed to run low turn motors.

I'm no expert on this stuff, but seem to recall being old that the hobbywing stuff is the same as Speed Passion. I use SP reventon pro with a 13.5T in.
Once I updated the software in the ESC and used an LCD programme box it was like a new world - I now run turbo on my ESC which kicks in after 0.5s of full throttle and I have to say on the straight my YZ2 is pretty much as quick as any car out there, but in field it is a dream as the 13.5T makes it so smooth and easy to drive.
I'm still rubbish, but I can't blame my gear
Have a look at what the ESC will do and if you can update software then I really would recommend it

The HW v2.1 has pretty old software as standard so you dont get many options and very little choice of boost/turbo etc. You need to upgrade the firmware to the latest version (V3_0_110930_mod to be exact) then you'll have plenty more options & a shed load more speed! This needs to be done by the LCD programme box and a windows PC.

It may mean the LED programme box doesnt work anymore possibly? Not 100% sure. The LCD programme box is the way to go, but to be honest, they're quite expensive and not used that often so you're better off borrowing one for a little bit to upgrade the software.

thanks, Im thinking of running HW ESC in both buggies and now my bike as well, so the 25 odd quid for the program box isnt the end of the world as it be common across the models

wasnt aware that you could update it, connect to PC etc, was about £75 and I assumed budget/basic

the problem it leaves me with is now I have to buy a PC...... hahaha

as has been mentioned, those older HW xerun v2.1 are the same as the speedpassion gt 2.x LPF and the multitude of cheap (sub £15) ebay copies like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2218631386...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Get the HW progbox and the latest hobbywing USB link software package, and you can update both the box and the speedo to the latest modified (boost and turbo) software. The software gives some help as to the different versions you can put on, looks like V3_0_110930_mod has been described above. You can they play with the settings with the box, or with the usb software on your pc.

Those sub £15 speedos are fine for vintage and occasional use cars.

Sorry to cut you off but you need the multi function program box, the LCD box lets you update the speedo but it renders the programmer useless when you update. The multi function can still be used without a PC after you update

WOW that was painless and easy, just have to remove the software from work PC now... LOL

now I have turbo and boost things to play with, no clue what to do with them but think its going to be fun playing

several people have commented that my car despite the 7.5 motor looks slow up the straight, so I guess thats what the turbo etc is all about

thanks to all those that took the time to help, damn glad I asked as I was considering buying a new ESC with turbo etc
