Trf501/2/3-credible 4wd club racer
Looking for something a bit different to run in 4wd class at my local indoor club and wondered if a tamiya is a worthy contender?
Most people run associated, losi, xray, yokes, Durango, Schumacher but I want to be different! It's either tamiya or kyosho. Not after a car that is fragile and needs constant tinkering, just want to switch on and run! Any thoughts appreciated |

Both the Tamiya 2wd and 4wd are very nice cars.
I havent run one myself but have seen a lad that has one running them in the regionals and he gets on quite well The car itself looks the absolute business and is easily one of the best looking rc cars I have seen. if the quality is the same as the 501 511 and 502 then it will be more than good enough at club level. you should be able to get parts for it fairly easily from hong kong as well |

I was racing up till 2 weeks ago my 511, still as fast as anything out there and made A finals with it at Maritime raceway
Most parts are readily available on eBay/hk shops, rcmart, Stella models etc Lots of good set ups on Petit rc website I would steer clear of the shaft drive 502 but a 511/503 will be spot on! |

Me too! I'm using a lipo cradle from the bmax 3, I'll post some pics up once I have finished my shorty conversion

For the shorty conversion on the 503... I have found the HB 413 holder to be perfect.. it fit's just right can comes with the right stuff to make it fit on the 503.. the only thing you will need is a older pair of 501x battery posts..
I'll post up some pic's in the 503 thread later showing how it fits

Hey.
511 still a great car to drive. Was bored this sunday so gave a try to what I was planning months ago. It fits on 511 if only you're not asymetric phobic! Just like it, makes me remember old good time design. Front 47/ Rear 53. ( close to zx6 shorty...) Esc and motor 250g/Shorty and servo 250g. Total weight: 1480g (!) Just found that D413 shorty holder set was the best choice to fix it, but I do this to recycle RCparts I already have. http://www.amain.com/hot-bodies-carb...shorty/p298398 Work in progress......before having a real track test. |

Don't rule out the 502X. Its a very good car and low maintenance as the diffs are fully sealed. If you are running mod the best up grade is TSR Ceramic diffs. The standard diffs last a long time in stock, but mod kills them.
You can still get the chassis up grade kit for it which is a good purchase as it comes with plenty of light weight parts and tuning options. With any of the Tamiya 4wds the optional 501 arms which are universal to all cars will make it very durable. The beauty of the shaft drive 502 is no belts to loosen and replace. I also believe SRP will be releasing a shorty pack conversion for the 502 very soon.
