Default Shock shaft & ball cup

Managed to brake a front shock shaft after about 20mins of fun with the Cat. It broke off leaving the thread inside the ball cup, do I have to buy the shock rebuild kit to get that type of ball cup?

Also are these shafts a bit too hard or was I plain unlucky, no bending just stapped staight off like a twig?
