DEX210 V2 fault/issue

Hi All,

I am not sure what is wrong with my Dex210v2 but I took it to Mendip today for its maiden run and only managed half a lap

I recently changed the spur to a 78 with a 28 pinion and am running a trackstar 13.5T Brushless with Trackstar 120A Turbo ESC currently in blinky mode whilst I learn to drive

The problem I have is the left rear wheel and arm raises up when I turn the wheels by hand or run the car on the stand. It seems to have a "stiff" point in the drive

Has anyone experienced this???

Today this resulted in my car stood still aftr half a lap in a cloud of smoke and refusing to work

Any help would be very much appreciated

could be a few things, but first, is the drive shaft located properly in the outdrive (end nearest the gearbox) ?

Yes it seems to be. Although this does seem to be a point of sticking.

The ball end itself seems to get stuck at a certain point of rotation.

Any suggestions

With the pinion removed does the car move freely

Hi Graeme
From your description there is obviously a build issue with the car.
The fact that you have toasted the speedo the drive train is binding so you need to work through it with the manual to find what is not the right way around.
Remove the rear wheels & shocks. Remove the pinion & with the car on a block/stand rotate the spur by hand & then work back from there.
Is the gearbox assembled correctly?
Are the drive shafts locating correctly?
Are the rear hubs assembled correctly?
Left on left, right on right, correct toe in & so on.

It seems to be the ball joint/drive cup. The ball joint sticks on part of the roation

I have stripped the car down this afternoon and the gearbox turns nicely by hand as it did before. I took my time with the build and followed some good online video tips for the ball diff etc

All of the drivetrain turns nicely by hand. Once pinion attached it is a little firmer but its the rear left driveshaft that "sticks" part way round.

I have run the car this afternoon at home in the street and all electrics are still alive and well !

Goes like a rocket now

I have sprayed a little GT85 in the drive cup/ball joint which seems to have helped (it hasn't, see update below)

An odd thing to come across early on

Update.....

After a good run in the street all electrics etc are operational and working well

The car when sat under its own weight (with driveshaft parallell) spins freely. When I put it on the stand and the arms drop it catches again......

Very odd

I am going to check the driveshafts etc for handed/directional marks and instructions just in case

Hi G,

Check the shock length and shock position. It sounds like you have too much droop on the shocks and thats causing them to bind. does the manual tell you to add any spacers internally in the shocks? If so di you fit them?

I built as per the manual but I am learning that that may not necassarily mean its correct !

I think you are right, too much droop. Shocks are mounted to the front of the rear shock tower and I think I need to adjust the ride height, droop etc

I will have a look at some set up sheets etc and see what people are running them on

I'm guessing you may have built the uj wrong, make sure the joint moves up and down in all rotations, I had this issue too and found that I had built this joint wrong.

I noticed it was wrong same as you the wheels seemed notchy on rotation and droop was different on rotation,
fix was dissamble and ensure pin goes in right way check manual

Did you use threadlock on the small pin retaining grub screw in the UJ? if so some of it may have worked its way to the cup part and is restricting the pin from rotating properly. Remove the pin clean off the threadlock and then reassemble paying attention to the amount of threadlock used, be very sparse with it.

Thanks, good tip Orinoco. I was pretty tight with it but who knows, could have been a touch over. I will strip it down and rebuild tonight and see whats what.

Do you have the droop screws in correctly?

Bernie_W Spot On !!!!! The pin was through the wrong hole in the drive shaft in the hub side and was stopping it from rotating correctly. Thanks and problem solved.
