Gear diff maintenence
Hi, I would like to know how often people are re-filling their diffs, I have just had to refill my diff after 4 race meets, is this normal or do I need new seals and O rings?

I think the original orings are quite hard and people are using the orings from the 1/8th scale DNX408 shocks
Well at least I am. Are you using a good amount of green slime? soaking the rings? Is anything split or cut? |

Do the 408 shocks have bigger o rings or can you use the 210 shock o rings? Mine loses it's oil after a day racing and therefore is proving to be very inconsistent i covered the standard seals in grease but they are not upto the job

Can't use the 210 o rings they are too small.
Do you know where its leaking from? the seals or the o rings? Get the DNX ones then forget about it |

I have a gear diff on order, and heard that some people use "black grease" on the gears instead of diff oil. Is this "black grease" the black molybdenum grease the 210 kit ships with?

Use the treseray seals easy fit never leak.
To note when the outdrives have worn enogh that the black coating has worn( where the seals touch) they leak like hell. |

4 meetings doesn't seem too bad!

personally i say you should be changing the oil for each race meeting.
Its seriously discoloured after a couple of runs.

the discoloration is the wear off the gears the problem is that silicone oil is to lubricate plastic, not metal gears. never really been sure why a silicone is used in gear diffs.

Black AE gear diff grease been in for a month or so using it 3 x per week and there is still the same amount of grease in there since day 1

I built it as per the gear diff build guide online, When I took the diff out it was dry where the diff halfs join the main gear but there was some build up around the outdrives. I will strip the diff completly to check for cuts/splits, It does seem from some of the responses that this is normal but I thought the gear diff was fit and forget.

How does it feel with black grease compared to silicone? if that is more consistant then I will give it a try as pulling the gearbox appart on this thing every week does not appeal to me |

When i first got my 210 Had loads of grief with the ball diff the rd gear diff was not out so pit in an ae sc10 diff, as much as ot pains me to say this the 410 diffs seem crap in comparison. It doesn't leak and after countless runs the oil is still clear, I asume down to the plastic gears, not the rough cast metal ones.

It's tight for the 1st 3 or 4 packs through it then it just stays the same till you want to refresh it
