Default Question about Losi XXX mid conversion

Hi,
I've started converting an old XXX chassis to mid engine configuration.
I'm planning to implement some innovative ideas for the fun of it even though i doubt it will be competitive on our low traction dirt track.
Today I started work by preparing the rear pivot plate.
I trial fitted the gearbox an other parts to the plate and saw that the motor is touching the plate where the plate is supposed to be bolted to the main chassis, leaving no room for the chassis between them (see picture).

A question for people that converted their XXXs: how did you get around this problem?

I guess this is also a way to be innovative, getting bogged down in the part where nobody else had any problem worth mentioning.

Avner.

To answer my own question (in case anyone else is interested):
Some washers are needed between the gearbox and the pivot plate to compensate for removing the motor guard.
