Generic 1/8 mount
Hi Guys
I have a nitro monster truck that I want to fit a 1/8 brushless combo into (XErun 150a and motor combo). Is there anything like a generic motor mount that is available? Something like an aluminium L shape profile with a hole for the shaft and two holes for the motor screws? I am fitting it on a Tamiya TNX so I just need a motor mount and I can drill holes in the flat chassis. Thanks

To start with i'd think about the bearing sizes either side of the spur gear(s), on most 1/8th buggies these are 8 x 16 x 5mm so if they're that size on the TNX or if you can find a way to use bearings that size you can probably somehow use a 1/8th buggy motor mount of one type or another.
Or if the OD of the TNX bearings are smaller you could maybe make something up to adapt the motor mount. |

sorry I dont understand (never used nitro) The gearbox has an exposed Spur. I have a motor with a mod-1 pinion, dont I just need to mount the motor on the plate so it it spins the spur.
What are the bearing things you are taking about? Really sorry to be a noob about this.. here is a pic of the truck http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model...22524&id=16972

If this were my project i'd try an HPI Vorza motor mount, it looks like you've got enough room on both sides of the spur at the rear of the chassis (but measure the overall length of the motor just to make sure): https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/103661 It accepts any 1/8th motor with a 40mm outside diameter and you just need to make four elongated holes in the chassis to adjust the gear mesh/play with the gearing. Also because the TNX chassis isn't the lowest point on the underside of the car, the bolt heads won't need to be recessed to prevent them catching. You can see how it fits on the Vorza chassis here to give you an idea (you might have to hack away some of the grey gear cover to give enough room for the pinion): https://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/101850 Talking about the pinion, I don't know if the TNX uses MOD1 or 32DP pitch on the spur, this is very important. You need to be absolutely sure the pinion and spur mesh properly before actually running the truck, maybe The Hobby Company or Tamiya in Japan can help with this. Regarding bearings, they basically support every rotating part in the drivetrain. You can find out more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearing_(mechanical)) |

If the transmission got a white plastic gear it 32dp/0.8MOD. If you what a MOD1 spur gear the TNX 5.2 has a metal spur thats a direct fit. I put one on my terra crusher, which the TNX is based on.

Cheers, for this. The Car has a steel spur on it so I assume that is the mod 1 version
I will take a look at what I can fashion
