Default Tyres for indoor at Counthill

Hi all,

What is the standard choice of tyre for indoors? Looking to buy some yellow mini pins, but looking at the BB pins as well.

Inserts also, I assume Schumacher Tubbys all round?

Will be running a Durango 410 if that helps...

Thanks
Adam

I'm not 100% convinced on minipins all round myself. They work well on the carpet sections but I find slightly scrubbed minispikes grip better on the polished floor for only slightly less traction on the carpet. And since there is no lack of grip on the carpet, and no grip on the polished floor thats the way round I'll be thinking.
Which is ultimately best will depend a little on how the track is laid on the day though.

Si, mini pins work the best no doubt, with a few set up adjustments they're faster than worn spikes.

I'm with Si on this, especially for 4wd where carpet grip is no problem at all.

Yellow minipins for me too. Regardless of which tyre you run the slippy bits will always be slippy.

If you look at any of the big meetings round the country that run indoor on low grip polished surfaces, Worksop and Batley for example, even Chadderton although not polished is low grip and the tyre of choice is a minipin type tyre.

I find slightly worn in minipins the quickest tyre at countill however they are really only at their best for 3-4 runs then start dropping off in performance.

As ever with RC, there are pros and cons.

Mini pins are faster that's for sure but I always run spikes just because they are easier to drive on the carpet I don't like the instant bite mini pins give as it normally results in grip roll for me
When racing at chadderton you know if I've got mini pins on because I zig zag up the straight

I would use mini spikes on 4wd myself. im with buds on this, the grip is more consistant from polished floor to carpet then with mini pins.

Having not turned a wheel in about 18 months I am not sure either will make that much of a difference to start with...

Already got mini spikes but will get pins as well so can try both.

Thanks for your replies
