No way,

I will need A Sat Nav to learn the track and binoculars to see my car to get around this track. its huge , looks like its going to be bigger then NDOR's track, hope its not open to the wind

Hey guys, can anyone suggest a good startup rig for a guy wanting to start in the short course truck racing? I know the blitz, slash, ansman and kyosho ultima.is one of them good or something else? Thanks

Hi matey,

depends on your budget and what kit you will need to run an SCT,

Are you starting from scratch with the hobby or do you already have another class you race in?

The trucks you have listed are 2WD so assume that is your preference?

Do you want to build a kit up to learn how they work/go together and paint your own colour scheme or do you just want something ready built where you can charge it up and get going?

Do you have local clubs you will be racing a truck at or are you more inclined to just run in the national championship during summer season?

Hello!
Im currently the proud owner of a axial scx10 Land rover D90 i run in the scale meets around the london areas with London scale trailers. Love it but after driving a friends traxxas 4x4 vxl i was taken. I like scale realism so stadium trucks and buggys arent my thing. So in short can build but newbie with really basic tools.

I would prefer 4wd but its alot more expensive and for a beginner i was thinking 2wd is simpler?

I live in hemel hempstead, so milton keynes is closest i guess? Id like to compete but not a high priority in my first rig :-)

The traxxas cars are very strong and good fun for 'bashing' but are not great when you decide to take them around a track against others, they have a high roll centre and limited settings for adjusting as a racer.

Ansmann cars are the cheapest to buy, spares are cheap and they make a good racer with some upgrades, but couldn't recommend to first time racer as they can be weak and likely to break as you are getting used to racing.

HPI Blitz is a good all rounder and popular for racing, take some punishment and easy to get parts for if needed.

Associated SC10 is worth looking at, again a good all rounder, RTR versions have scale paint jobs from full size racing but you'll need a set of imperial tools though.

Losi XXX-SCT is well worth considering, i ran one for over a year, strong (didn't break it!), competitive and a good racer, again you'll need imperial tools... this has now been replaced by the recent TLR 22-SCT which is a more competition based truck, very strong and the best spec truck out of the box on market, a RTR version has just been announced but not sure when it'll be in UK or the price.

Durango DESC210 is another recent but will be popular competition based truck, the Ready to Race version may be worth looking at as it has a good spec brushless set up.

You'll be able to get advice and set-ups etc for racing all of the above on oOple, although you'll find the Traxxas advice will be limited

In Milton Keynes area there is Silverstone club and Three Counties which both run SCT's... Watford is not a million miles away from 'HH' so worth checking with DMS Racing as they may run them at their club meetings too.

If your preference is 4wd then that would be the way to go from the outset, why settle for your own perception of second best?

New 4wd trucks may be more expensive from the word go, but you can race a standard 4wd truck pretty much out of the box and have a good time.
2wd racers have to mess about adding weight to get traction, adding extra bits to get them to get round the track.

That was basically the exact info i needed, and thank you for the watford heads up, i work in watford a fair bit so thats great news! Very helpful...

I saw ansmann were cheap but i slso heard they were discontinuing sct line so parts could become a problem?

Losi and ae seem to be widely available in uk on ebay so ill keep my eyes open and check out the club in watford! Thanks again!

I ran a rtr and ESE for just over a year and they were great cars, John brook was winnin nationals with his

I also ran a durango 410 and that was a very good car and would fly around the track

shows what you know golden thumbs.. it needs stiffer springs good sign you saying its still RTR, means you haven't wrecked it! check your f/b.

Ansmann SCT spares are not a problem, Team C cars/trucks are the same thing pretty much just a rebrand so the parts will carry over if Ansmann become unavailable in the future.
