Default Swapping from sticks to wheel??

Has anyone swapped from sticks to wheel?
After getting back into racing a few months ago after a 8 year break, one of the first things I got was a ko universe(last radio i had). But my thumbs aren't what they used to be and my right thumb hurts at the end of the day. I'm tempted to try a cheap wheel and see how it goes but not sure how long it would take to get used to it.
Anyone tried and how long did it take you?

I've just done it. It took a couple of hours on vrc to get a bit comfortable. I have done two meetings and am not a lot slower, just less consistent. It really depends how quickly you adapt.

I have the same problem, my thumbs aren't that great after years of site work . Swapped to wheel and found it ok , but you've got to work at it and you'll probably find it tricky in the tight corners . Don't by a cheap wheel , you'll find it even harder . I'd go for a second hand spektrum dx3r pro if you can get one , if you like that then look at ko , sanwa or futaba .

I had always been a stick radio guy from my Knight Rider car through to my first hobby grade radio (Nikko Discovery 2), but I learning to fly helis I found it weird going from one stick radio to another in consecutive days, not to mention there was always a downside to mid price stick sets (hideously priced recievers, you know you are).

So I took a gamble on the spekky dx4s just over a year ago, took a while but I've not looked back.

I driven sticks forever.. lol
But hands are playing up and i also thought of wheel

I found that using a neck strap was huge help. Let that take weight. Not gripping tx so much. Takes pressure off thumbs etc.

I can drive with wheel but havent given it a chance to really set in yet

I find steering easier. Throttle control better. But struggle with braking.

I drive cack handed.wheel on left. Suits me better.

Going to get out to the track soon as weather cheers up and just spend 2 or 3 hours practising with wheel.

I think that's what I need to do. Just put the laps in and go from there.

Try and borrow one, i'm sure someone at the club will have one that's compatible with the receivers you have, or even willing to loan you a Tx/Rx, it's only 5 minutes to swap and calibrate for a test.

Spend as much as you can reasonably afford, the difference between cheap and expensive is noticeable!

Matt, how did you get on with the change over, I'm in the exact same scenario and thinking of a move to a wheel.

I thought about this too, as over here everyone uses wheel Txs. I'm fine with the steering, i just can't 'get' the brakes. Maybe i just need to have drag brakes. Either way, just got the new Futaba 4GRS twin stick and it's phenomenal.

I'm also of thinking of switching from (flight) stick to wheel. I only got the flight stuff since it was cheap. I didn't mind the constant throttle stuff so much. But I have a crappy wheel with a newish model and it's just fine.

Got a wheel coming off ebay hope it likes my 1/8...
