You should be able to fit a 11.1v lipo in it, did it with my 3vc.

What radio is it?

8 x 1.5v is 12v anyway, but with NiMh cells the nominal voltage is 1.2v so you are unlikely to get 12v.

I use NiMh cells in my son's tx and it usually reports about 10 -11v .

As it is designed to run from AA cells it should happily handle 12v however a 3s lipo will be 12.6v fully charged, 4.2v per cell. Most electronics can deal with a range of supply voltages.

What is your reason for wanting lipo? For me, it was not having to worry about recharging between meetings because standard NiMh loose too much charge over time. Newer hybrids (eneloop, good to go, pre charged) got over that. They can go months between charges so I haven't bothered with lipo.

I put a 3s lipo in without any issues. It lasts a lot longer, lighter, easier and quicker to charge if at the track or out and about. I always unplug it when not using the handset just in case.
The lipo was only about £10.

FWIW, i'm running a 2s LiFe battery in a radio that usually takes 4 batteries (so 6v max) the LiFe, straight off the charger, reports just short of 7v.
No problems in the 12 months i've had it fitted.

no problems in my 3VCS. Just take it out to charge it back up with my normal charger.

when fully charged it says 12.6v, but the voltage drops rapidly (in a few minutes) once it gets close to 10.0v. I tend to re-charge it once it gets under 11.0v anyway.

I get around 15hrs of runtime between charges.

I've used one of these http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking...dProduct=23814 in my 3VCS since I've had it. Never had a problem and it works out about the same as a set of Duracell AA's for it!
