Default Venue for Winter Racing

Hi all,

Most of you at the track recently have heard the discussion about an indoor venue for the winter. Things are really starting to happen on this subject now and Mick Bolger and myself have been to see a trio of places in the city centre this week. It has now become apparant that the city centre is going to be far too expensive and isn't really an option.

Mick B, will have news today about a few more places to view - in Ashbourne and Maynooth. We're looking for about 3,500 sq. ft (320 sq. m) primarily for buggy racing, but it has been proposed that we lay a dual/multiroute track, so that buggies, touring cars, and minis? could all run at the one meeting with only the buggies tackling the jumps. Prosperous was about 1800 sq.ft - so 3,500 sq ft could accommodate a proper sized track with the multiroute option easily.

Either Ashbourne or Maynooth would be easier to get to than Propserous, and the rodent viewing potential would be massively reduced.

We'll keep you posted.

http://www.daft.ie/searchcommercial.daft?id=27785 (€800 p/m)

spoke to the guy this morning and he's to ring me back to let me know if it could be used for our club. what do people think of the price/size/location?

Thumbs up

I spoke to Keith Dempsey about this yesterday and he thought it would be a good idea if the two clubs could find a venue that would suit minis ,tc and buggies as Oisin was looking at running minis only this winter.Anything that would keep costs down and get more people running ? Last winter there were 10-12 drivers running minis in summerhill.

Is this the one that was looked at last year?
http://www.daft.ie/searchcommercial.daft?id=50390

looks like the rent has dropped a bit to 200 a week, and its 10,000 sq feet.
Might be possible to get just one (5000 sq ft) of the units for a lower price?

where are most people travelling from, so we have a good "central" point for everyone?

for example, naul for me is miles away and would be a bit of a trek (plus tolls). on the other hand, the current track in lucan is 2mins from me - but i'm sure there's people who have to travel some distance to get there.

I reckon as long as its on or near one of the motorways it should be ok. For me I drive from ashbourne to lucan and this is just 20 mins, including picking up a coffee. Taney is 30 mins at the most. Thats because they arent far off the motorways.
If i had to go to that site above in the naul, id take the back road across to it, it would probably take me as long to get there as it would you.

Hi all,

A few of the club members met up last night in the Naul to look at a proposed shed for winter racing.

It's absolutely perfect - a nearly new 9,000 sq. ft helicopter hanger, and we agreed with the owner to take it from the weekend of October 16/17 to mid-March.

GPS/Google Maps coordinates - 53.56493,-6.253656

The site is behind a secure electric gate, and the lighting is awesome - it's like day time inside - although lighting may not be needed on a bright day.

Cant wait to get in there, can we build some big jumps

It's going to cost us 750.00 Euro a month all in. This is 150 more than Prosperous last year, but there is no comparison in the venues.
The hanger is fully insulated and clean!

If we can get 20 drivers to pay 37.50 month instead of race fees - considering there will be Thursday evening and Sunday racing - it's great value. The track will be nearly as big as the outdoor track.

monthly fee - €37.50
tolls (twice a week) x4 - €48.00

this is gonna be pricey!

In all honesty, I think that getting 20 driver is a bit ambitious.

More realistic would be looking at 15 drivers at €50 ea. From the club point of view we need to gaurentee the rent each month. The cost of renting is a major outlay for the club finances when added to the other items that will be needed to be purchased to make the winter racing happen.

Tolls, nothing really we can do about that, apart from look at alternative routes. Sunday mornings it could be as quick to go though the city centre!

But we need to look at the positives of this opportunity the club has. The size of the venue is more than we could have hoped for. I do understand that the location will not suit everyone. But we have to go with what we can find.

From a size point of view, we will be able to construct a track with a layout comparable to an outdoor track. The track in some respects will be better then outdoor as it will be a permanent lay-out for the winter. (Giving us the possibility of building jumps and rhythm sections.) As well as the track the venue will also be able to facilitate a large number of racers.

Personally I think this is a great opportunity for the club to grow and develop over the winter season.

MiCk B. :-)

Ok, we need people to volunteer to give up the rent.
15 x 50 euro - if more people agree, this will come down.

It really is a great venue, as for the location, its swings and roundabouts. Some people have tolls, distance etc going to lucan or taney, others dont. It will be the same problem no matter where in dublin the venue is.
