Hi Again

Gonna upgrade to brushless in the next few weeks

I found this combo

http://www.jemodels.com/electric-mod...tegory_id=1276

Would this be good enough for racing?

It's a 13t brushless motor

Thanks

Yep, that should be ok for a mild brushless setup.

Don't be worried about speed, esp indoors.
The thing that will slow you down most is crashing, which you will do alot more of with a car that's faster than your ability.
From what I've read Bury run a beginner/youngster heat that that set-up should slot into quite nicely. You can always move onto a "pro" level kit or faster motor at a later time.

A 13t should be plenty fast enough for you. As Col says, too much power just means you'll break lots. Many experienced racers are running very quick motors, but they've built up to those motors as they've got better, they didnt start on them!

Personally i started on a Tamiya silver can 540 20-odd years ago. A 13t brushless will be several times faster than that!

ah ok thanks col

i just dont want to buy that motor & esc combo and find out its not a good piece of kit,

im gonna use it for bashing and abit of racing too

could i also ask, if i was to go with the 13T brushless, what would be the best gearing? between pinion and spur, (i only know it as in teeth so far haha)

Many thanks again

lol ok thanks Howler. As being new to all this i need all the help i can get, which i really do appriaciate, so i will stick with the 13T

I guess gearing would then become an issue, finding the balance between acceleration and speed?... if this is the case, would i need to change the pinion and spur?

thanks

Hard to say without knowing your spur gear size and final drive ratio. Usually its best to experiment a bit, start with the pinion you have and gear up until you start to notice the motor and ESC getting hot. You can usually find someone with a temperature gun you can borrow in the pits on race days (Me for example). Keep motor and ESC temps below 150 degrees and you shouldnt have any problems. When you hit about 170 you start to get ESCs blowing up and motor bearings failing.

ok thanks

reading on some parts for the buggy i have. The stock spur is 74t 48dp. I know i have to replace my pinion with a steel/metal one as a plastic one (which i have) may strip the teeth using a brushless motor

From the info given, what teeth pinion should i get? (or a rough idea) to start with?

thanks again

EDIT: - Sorry, i should of mentioned i only have a plastic pinion, so when i get a steel/metal pinion what would you suggest? the same amount of teeth as the stock one?

Chances are, you're going to need a few. I'd probably try and 21 to start with and if it doesnt get hot throw on a 22... then a 23... until it starts to get too hot.
