Default Kyosho rb6 motor running hot and unable to get 5 mins on battery.

Hi guys,

I'm after some advice. I have recently bought an RB6 and put my lrp 6.5 octa wind motor with my orion r 10 Esc in. On Tuesday night at our race meeting the motor started to runreally warm and a lot warmer than usual. So I adjusted the speedo to have no timing or boost add ons and it still ran hot. Also the batteries were running very warm and has swelled up. I then found 2 rear bearings to be dragging in the hubs. Replaced the bearings today and tried it and cannot get 5 mins from my lipos. I tried changing the gearing and slipper but to no avail. If I add any timing to the speedo the car is undriveable and far to punchy.

Any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks in advance.

Motor suddenly getting warm sounds to me that something has started to bind. Remove the pinion and check that the transmission runs freely.

I had the same trouble when i use to run the LRP octa winds in my losi 22 a few seasons ago, i managed to stop it by going down a few pinions but it always ran hot and would still only just make the 5 min race, they all run the same.

What pinion and spur are you running on your RB6 Ash ???

I'm running a 24 pinion and 76 spur. Have gone up a couple of teeth but it's just too quick when it gets going.

If the motor is getting hot, you want to lower the number of teeth on the pinion.
Don't know the size of the track, but I use a 24/76 on a 7.5t SP motor on a large outdoor track.
For a 6.5t esp a quick 6.5t I would of thought circa 21t would be about right.
If your gearing is too talk the motor will be drawing more amps hence getting warm quickly and the batteries not lasting as long.
It's a possibility.
Is the speedo getting warm too?
What capacity are the batteries?
On a 5min stint on a 2wd I use typically around 1500mah, so batteries not lasting suggests large amp draw, which could be incorrect gearing or something binding.
Yes the octawind run a bit hotter but they should last 5 min...
