Default Asso B5m gearbox

Hallo guys,

some club colleagues ask me to construct a lowrider-gearbox for their Asso B5M buggies.

Today I've checked the first 3d-printed prototype and made some small corrections on the cad-data. You can see the results in the attachtment.

The motor plate in the picture is only a dummy and not in final shape.

Greetings

Stephan

Looks great, is the motor guard a fixed or bolt on part? just as wondering about printing costs.

@jerzi: I don't know if there is a belt driven differential available for the b5m.

@neilralph77: I will make the 3d-printed parts available on shapeways as soon as I'm ordering the new prototypes. I think I will do this next week, cause my colleagues will be testing the first one this weekend. So you will be able to build this gearbox if you are willing to manufacture your own motor plate. I also will ask the friend of mine who is producing them for us if he is willing to do more of them. But as I understand Asso is already planing on selling an official version of the lowrider gearbox. So in some weeks nobody will care about this one anymore.

@Losi_110: The motor plate is made out of aluminium or carbon (we are testing two versions), so it is a bolt on part. We payed about 25€ for printing the first gearbox (3 plastic parts) without the motor plate.

Greetings

Stephan

You can see the final version as it probably will be available on shapeways in the picture attached to this posting.

Since watching the formula one gp was pretty frustrating for a non-Hamilton-fan, I used the time to finalize the motor plate.

That looks very neat..well done.. Have you test run it properly yet.? How does it stand up to race conditions.?

First test (2 battery loads) have been done this week. The first big test will be a race in Czech republic this weekend.

It is only the first prototype at which I've made some smaller mistakes. But since this is already performing pretty well, I'm in a good mood for the further ones.

Greetings

Stephan

Of course, my colleagues got the idea from them and I thought it is a nice opportunity to test 3d printed parts under useful conditions.

I don't want to make money with this gearbox, so I'm not a competitor.

Just because someone else makes them, doesn't mean that you can't anyway 😉, free market and all that.
So does it use the standard layshaft and idler? How much would you want for postage to the UK as tempted.

The first tests went pretty good, so I'm building four more ones, which will be given to some testdrivers. One of them will be driven at the next EOS-Race.

@Losi110: Ich will send you a PM.

Greetings

Stephan
