Thank you Tamiya for changing the sidepods! Though I must say the first mod I can imagine is people chopping out those inside ribs of the pods to make more space for the electronics!

Speaking of those sidepods, they don't look machined either like the earlier description suggested?

Chopping out the inside ribs will affect chassis flex...

I bet this alu chassis has less flex in general than the plastic tub (especially around the T-plate). I know it affects flex levels, but curiosity would soon get the better of me and my Dremel to find out anyway if I'd buy this chassis

Right, looking more carefully, will find the car a bit ugly because of the gaps between plastics and the chassis.

What would be interesting to see is this new alum chassis vs one of the customized 8mm+ plastic chassis that are out there - to compare traction and flex.

Anyone have a 1/10th scale four post test rig?

There are some pictures of the new 201 alu chassis in the Oople race report for the 2013 BRCA national round 3 at Eden Park Raceway - http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/2013national-epr/.

About half way down there is a small feature about it. As one of the captions says, it looks a bit... unfinished!

Lee Martin used his Vega 201 to win the event instead..

Default RC Aluminum Lower Deck Set - TRF201 XR (Long Wheelbase)

This new lower deck for the TRF201 off-road racing buggy is result of years of dedicated testing by the TRF team. The TRF201 conversion set is designed with the goal of winning the 2014 IFMAR off-road championships. The new aluminum lower deck makes the TRF201 chassis into a long wheelbase, narrower chassis setup, which reduces contact with the racing surface. Drivers can expect their TRF201 and DN-01 model to become even more competitive in at their local track.

Wheelbase is extended by 11mm to provide increased stability.
Aluminum lower deck has hard anodized coating to provide excellent durability.
Resin side guards add to the toughness of the chassis.
Compatible with rectangular-shaped and separate-type battery packs. Battery position can be changed depending upon the type employed.
Set contents

Aluminum Lower Deck x1
Aluminum Front Posts x3
Aluminum Rear Posts x2
Aluminum Battery Post x2
Aluminum Suspension Spacer x1
Carbon Battery Plate x1
Resin Side Guards x2
Body x1
Wing x1
