Default Shock Shaft Length

On the worlds edition 501 the shock shafts are longer than the originals (newer ones are gold). When I had one of each I tried swapping shocks about but never really nailed down what effect it made due to being rubbish at these things! So what effect is it meant to have and are shorter shocks sometimes better?

From pics of the 511 it looks like maybe it is back on the shorter shafts. Would there be any performance reason for that or would the longer shafts definitely be better as an option??
How on Earth are you able to tell the length of the shaft from photos?

There is a point where theorising about unreleased cars based on pre-release photo's becomes a dangerous obsession...

Congratulations DaveG28 - you've just reached it!

There you go, am now asking for exactly the same information in a different way so hopefully it doesn't cause an issue, and maybe, just maybe, will even get answered...

Oooohhhh let's keep the handbags in the closet! Clearly I failed to convey the humour intended with the post.

All other settings being equal, shorter throw shocks would have less droop, so worse on the bumps, worse on jump landings, less ultimate cornering grip, but more responsive.
