Default XXXS spur gears in X-5 - is it possible?

Has anyone successfully run XXXS spur gears in their X-5?

I stripped my stock spur gear today (on carpet - very high grip) and seeing as I have lots and lots of XXXS spurs it would be handy if they worked.

Is the pitch the same? I think the XXXS ones are 64dp, just like the X5. I might be wrong about any or all of this though.

Which brings me onto another thing....I admit I never thought of this until now...but could the reason for stripping the X5 spur be that I'm using Losi pinions? Aren't these 48dp and don't I need 64dp ones? This might explain a thing or two if I'm right, especially as I'm always very careful with my mesh. Saying this though, I ran standard Losi pinions on my XXXS and never stripped anything.

Now I'm confused....can someone explain please?!

Hmmm...maybe it was the drive pulley and diff pulleys that are 64dp then.

So basically I'm screwed and have to get an X-5 spur?

No it won't, for a whole variety of reasons you will need an X Factory X5 gear.

A couple of peopple have mentioned stripping spurs recently, this is something I have NEVER had a problem with.

Why are you stripping them? Does the mesh become tigher/slack if you rotate the spur by hand? Are you just meshing the motor too far away? Is the motor moving by itself?

None of the above!

Mesh is tight enough and loose enough if you know what I mean...very slight wobble in the spur against the pinion....as it should be. You know when its too tight because of the noise anyway, and it was fine by my standards and no-one else commented on the noise until it failed today.

The mesh was equal all the way around as well. This is always checked...even on a simple 2WD setup.

Maybe for some reason the motor moved slightly under strain...perhaps after a jump...or on acceleration? Who knows. It was certainly checked and tight enough before I started.

I think xxx4 ones will physically fit just fine, but unfortunately they are miles smaller (in terms of number of teeth) than the X factory ones, so your gearing would be way off the mark.
Is your slipper set correctly? if this was locked up any harsh landing could transfer the shock into the drivetrain.

Do you have the motor clamp on the right way round, it's is NOT symetrical.

You would also need a spacer to fill the large center hole of the XXX4 spur gears.

Pretty sure the clamp was fine.

I reckon I must have had the slipper too tight then....sounds the most plausable to me.
