Gearing, start with a 22t in the 2wd with the 7.5
& 21t for the 6.5 in the 4wd. Don't forget that if you run in the 7.5t in the 2wd, you'll be moved from the 10.5t class to the modified call. Soldering iron, something like this: Some details here: http://www.oople.com/forums/showthre...highlight=iron MiCk B. :-)

Hi, Not an expert solder but this is what I use.
Got mine on ebay few years back and no problem for this kind of job. It's a 60 watt 50Htz- simple stuff no adjustment but I found it to be great for small and big RC jobs with my RC boats and now RC Car too. But I made sure i could change the head and found these guys pretty good http://thesolderman.co.uk/ Hope it helps

glx there is no motor limit within the club. Its just that the guys run a double championship with anyone running 10.5t/ 13.5 or higher going into Pro-stock championship and anyone then running below 10.5 are placed into the Modified championship. As far as i am aware once you run in the modified class ( below 10.5t) you will be placed into the class for the season. Most of the lads new to the club are generally running the pro-stock which gives a good base to start from plus the RTR kits have electrics which are within the prostock motor limits. Might aswell make use of the rtr electrics then just ripping it out for modified gear.

As Colin said there's the two classes 10.5t and above and everything else. With the numbers racing this only applies to 2wd. There are not enough 4wd at the moment to split the classes into two. Simply, keep running what you have at the moment. Now back to soldering irons. This is what I have on the bench at home!! Overkill for track side use. But great for working on things at home. I got mine in Maplin, must be 8 - 10 years ago at this stage...... Just get a big tip for it, 6mm or similar, comes with a small tip 2mm or so, which is grand for small work receiver cables etc. Yep it's good for everything, it's all I use at home. Wiring speedo, cells when we had to assemble ni-cad / ni-mh packs and anything else. I can bring it out if you want to have a look at it. MiCk B. :-)

Soldering
Eoin,
Just a quick one dont be mislead by buying a high watt soldering iron as it is all about the tip you use - I have a 25w weller iron but a decent tip and have never had a problem with soldering motor wires etc Jamie |

I use an Antex Iron too, just like Mick B but I got the digital one earlier this year and really love it.
There is nothing it won't do, in RC terms. Best 200 quid I ever spent in this hobby and that's no joke ! http://www.antex.co.uk/product.asp?s...D=185&P_ID=893 Can full recommend them, very cheap for replacement tips too ! |
