Default Vintage Cat XLS value?

Hi Peeps!

My brother has asked me to sell his old Schumacher Cat for him on evilBay (or even here) but I was always more of a Kyosho fan back in the day so I don't know too much about it.

From memory, as I haven't picked it up from our parents yet, it's a Cat XLS with saddle-pack FRP chassis. There will be some upgrades on there I'm sure and it won't be shelf-queen condition. Any idea of the value or what I should be aiming at listing it for?

Depends on condition and if more than one person wants it

ebay is a cruel and unpredictable mistress.... I picked up an rc10 Graphite for 20 quid
the next one (in not so good condition) made 80

do a quick search on ebay for finished auctions and it should give you an idea of current market value and price accordingly

If it's clean with all its bits intact, they seem to go for 150+ if its really nice with all original radio and a good looking shell people can go mad for it, but ebay can be cruel if you only have one bidder. put it on with a slightly keen buy now but use the make an offer option, point out in the listing that all sensible offers will be considered, I find that gives you an idea of what the market will pay, also gives you the option of going for a good offer

I hadn't thought about radio gear, I can probably put something together but it will be historic (mid '90's) stuff. Would it sell better with full electrics?

Thanks for the advice so far, I'll post some pics when I've picked it up. If anyone on Oople would be interested I'd be more than happy to see it go to a good home rather than adding to eBay profit margins!

Clean runner with non original diff and layshaft fetched £220 recently on ebay. Give or take £50, seems to be typical, dependant on condition.

That one went for £155, I would say the one I have to pick up will be in a similar condition to this and I'm pretty sure it's got some MMS diff upgrades but I'll get some good photos once I've got it 'in hand'. Cheers peeps

Ok my Dad brought the car over yesterday and I've given it a bit of a dust off and taken a few pics. First up a quick pic of the car:

Front end:

The front diff is MMS:

I'm almost 100% that the rear diff is also MMS as I remember seeing it in pieces but I wasn't sure what the layshaft was so I dropped the rear shock and removed one of the alloy layshaft bearing housings (both layshaft housings are alloy):

It does appear to have had quite a few upgrades, the front wishbones, top links and hubs are newer but it still has the classic one-way bearing roller driveshafts on the front. The rear has the newer driveshafts and hubs but I'm not that familiar with CAT's so I don't know if the wishbones are different.

Most of the rear gearbox appears to have been upgraded with black anodised side plates, an MMS heatsink on the top and alloy rear shock mount (with heatsink) and anodised alloy motor housing (again with heatsink). I think the slipper is also MMS and the spur is 122tooth 64DP. The rear diff eccentric bearing housings are also alloy:

I replaced the front o-rings with some that my Dad found in a fresh packet. The undertray and body have some scuffs and a bit of cracking in places. The wing wire and button mounts are missing but there is a wing!

Also currently included are some period electrics: Tekin 700 speedo, brushed Parma motor and Futaba 6148 servo (at least that's what I think they are from what I can see of the labels).

Here's a full gallery of pics:

If anyone can give me a closer valuation based on the pics that would be awesome. Cheers

Doesn't look like there is much of the original there, so as it sits I would say £150ish..

Might be worth more broken up, the alloy rear driveshafts go for good money (saw a set go for £80!!!), as do the MMS parts etc...

Looks to be more Bosscat and Procat now than XLS. Still looks like an awesome bit of kit though. I always think its a shame to break a runner, but I can appreciate that they can be worth more as parts.

I'd much rather it went to a good home and lived on to race as is. I'm not interested in parting it out but I'm pretty sure my brother will still have all the original XLS suspension parts. Just having some difficulty getting over there as I'm currently on crutches and can't drive!

The only way to stop Dan is through his wife.

If someone were to tell her how many cars he really has he will have to sleep in the desert probably...

I think we would all end up in the same place if our other halfs found out what we really had and how much we spent

True, but we would probably still be in one piece, with a only few bruises. I think Dan would end up as MIB kit...

You 2 crack me up!

Justin maybe she'd be excited at the prospect?

If she ever asks I just say I sell and use that money to buy others, which is about 25% the truth!
