DB01 questions

Recieved my DB01 today

gave her a run all went well could put a couple more teeth on the pinion but that's for another day

what i would like to know is

1. my lipo is a squeeze to fit and as the wires come out the side anything i can do to make things a little less snug ?

2. electrics are also a squeeze i currently have them where it says in the manual but theres no routing for the throttle wire to the reciever wheres the best place for it ?

other than that is a slipper clutch a worhty upgrade ? and the airation shocks ?

jimmy 03-01-2010 09:45 PM

Yes - the kit includes a cable tidy to route any wires over the motor

http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/revie...ctrics02_t.jpg

The slipper and aeration dampers are great upgrades but it depends what you're wanting to do with the car - the slipper would be at the top of my list I think.

Yoldume 03-01-2010 09:58 PM

well as ive got it id like to take it to broxtowe when i get it sorted

ive bought it near mint but the cable tidy is missing novak do one dont they ?

i think some heatshrink a fag and some thinking will suffice for a solution

deffo gettin the slipper anywhere uk to make a purchase

trf dampers can wait

This is the stuff you're looking for:

http://computers.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.h...&_osacat=31491

Or if you want to go and pick some up from a shop, Maplin do it too http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=26849

As for the slipper, http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta54018.htm

That's the single slipper.

Here's the double http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta54061.htm. Notice the slight price increase...

Yoldume 03-01-2010 10:15 PM

think ill go with the single...

Yoldume 03-01-2010 10:18 PM

whats fusion hobbies like for sevice never found them before?

also any experience of the gpm shocks ?

i4n 03-01-2010 10:28 PM

I know it's not supporting the UK model industry but I tend to get most of my spares from Hong Kong or Japan (as do most people I know who run Tamiya as the UK importer, The Hobby Co, don't import the right quantities of the right stuff, can take ages to order stuff in when needed and it's normally quite expensive when they do).

I've used Stella Models (http://www.stellamodels.net) a lot with no problems (and they currently have the double slipper up for $46 + postage) as well as RC Mushroom (https://rc-mushroom.com/index.php) and RC Mart (http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/default.php?language=en). Postage is usually very quick (7 days or so) and I've never paid any customs fees either (even when I purchased the DB-01, Slipper, Shocks, Titanium Screw Kit and a shed load of spares at the same time from Stella).

In the UK good places for Tamiya (and especially the DB-01) I've found are Brock Models (http://www.brockmodels.com/) and Fusion Hobbies (http://www.fusionhobbies.com/). There both on a par with each other - fast postage and more than happy to get stuff in if they haven't got it in stock (although that can take ages due to the importer - it's not their fault)

I've no experience of the GPM shocks, mine's had TRF Dampers on from build.

Yoldume 03-01-2010 10:33 PM

i think the trf dampers will be a worthy upgrade

and cheers for the links ive used rcmart before theyre A* for delivery few issues atm cos of crimbo tho

Migs 04-01-2010 11:48 AM

what sort of lipo u have in it? if its a bit tall, then u can get the ta05 carbon battery brace for it

dimblum 05-01-2010 01:42 AM

I use a Team Orion Lipo with right angle gold banana plug connectors for the wires. I can plug in from the top of the battery and the right angle plugs keep the wires flush against the battery surface.

This connection solved any clearance issues I had with the tray and the body.

Hope this helps.

ive got a turnight 2s 5000mah pack side exit wires tho ive found facing the wires through the rear tunnel but bending them inline with the transmission tunnel on the battery the esc wires go over the top

this works quite well but the 60a ezrun is a reet squeeze

I use both side wired lipo`s (Demon 5000`s) and bullet (trackpower) lipo`s

The side wired ones as you have said are a tight fit but i`ve used them on and off for 5 months and they work fine all be it not BRCA legal tho.

I also use Trackpower sticks but to get the wiring to fit i had to use Demon 4mm male connector with solder eye Corally style bullets these
http://demonpowerproducts.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=3426 Also had to nick out the battery harness (i have a deans connector so i can use both lipo packs above.

Defineately upgrade to a slipper clutch and the dampers are recommended if your gonna start racing as the buggy handles so much better with these fitted. Also the alloy steering rack is a good upgrade (ball raced) but not nessesary.

i4n`s post is really good and gives great links to trustworthy suppliers

heres some picture`s of my DB-01 for wiring reference and battery reference

My wiring route is simular if not the same for cells

94eg! 07-01-2010 06:08 PM

Hands-down the best place to buy parts is Rdvtg-hobbies on eBay. They sell out of Japan for prices lower than anybody else. Plus their shipping is only $2 for the first item and $1 each additional item. They even arrive at my door in under a week.

Here are the two slippers for way cheaper than what you posted:

http://stores.ebay.com/Rdvtg-Hobbies...w=db01+slipper

i4n 07-01-2010 07:22 PM

I didn't go through to checkout to check postage prices, but Stella has both the items slippers cheaper than your "way cheaper" seller. Not much cheaper ($0.80 for the single and $2.00 for the double) I'll admit, but it's still cheaper. From my experience with Stella it'll probably work out the same overall once postage is taken into account.

However, they are all (Stella, Mushroom, Mart and your eBay seller) substantially cheaper then the UK based shops and it is nice to know of another reputable place to get certain items and spares from.

94eg! 07-01-2010 09:04 PM

I always forget about them. Their prices are good, but registered postage always takes forever out of Hong Kong. Stella wants $4 to ship either slipper. I've never seen anybody beat rdvtg-hobbies overall. I don't know if it's just the US, but things get here super fast from Japan. Must be a customs thing (or the postal system on their side)...

i4n 07-01-2010 09:21 PM

It's normally about 7 days from either Hong Kong, Japan or Macau to get to the UK - a bit more during bust periods like Christmas.

Yes that sounds right. Tighten those diffs up . With or without slipper, you probably want the diffs to be tight enough that you will only get about 3/4 turn if you spin one tire by hand (open palm). Do this with the car held in the air. Typically the front diff is set a little tighter than the rear...

http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/...oducts_id=3969

are these a direct replacement for the stock diff plates ?

and i tightened them i discovered the noise was my gear mesh it was slightly too tight its bloody hard to set and to get my eyes on it without having to hold it upto the light i can do it by feel but a visual confirmation is better

Yep, i use these

Andy

Yoldume 13-01-2010 06:36 PM

wicked, no need for diff plates either ? or are these all i need to replace the 2 piece stock plates ?

and and

any other thinks i could get at the same time ?

already got a slipper in the post and the shocks im buying next payday

Spoolio 13-01-2010 09:36 PM

Hmmmm, I know the Tamiya 501X diff joints are pricey but I think they are well worth it if you ever want to run a big power motor. I think you still need to use the diff rings whichever joint you choose, you deffo do with the Tamiya 501X ones and as the 3racing ones are alloy I'm pretty sure you'd have to use the diff rings or the balls will chew through in no time.

Yoldume 13-01-2010 09:39 PM

501x diff joints fit ?

i thought as they are different sizes front and rear niether would ?

TRF_AK 14-01-2010 07:53 PM

501x diff joints are a directly replacement for the stock DB-01 plastic diffs. You do also need to buy the diff rings. 51287 for the diff plates and 51286 for the diff joints.

I run a 4.5T motor with the 3 racing diff halves ,the tamiya ones are pretty much identical as i have these also but were twice the price! and of course you need to use diff plates.

Yoldume 14-01-2010 10:20 PM

wooo buggered a diff

took her out earlier on the snow was great fun until i got her back and felt the rear diff it was mega loose Undone even after

taking her apart it seems like the screw going through the diff has pulled the threads out of the bolt and bent the bolt so ive either tightened it too much before the run or somethings applied alot tension when in use

anyway i need a new nyloc nut and a 1.5mm bolt

any ideas ?

Yoldume 14-01-2010 11:03 PM

Found the part number i need 9949350

but i dunno where to go for it

Fusion hobbies and wheelspin models have them but weather they are in stock i dont know

and modelsport have it but theres a stock indicator

i dont want to be sat waiting for a tiny bolt for the rest of my life

mole2k 15-01-2010 12:43 AM

This should be the same bolt here:
http://www.brockmodels.com/product_i...u43jmj23b1dck4

They should have in stock and havnt let me down with anything i've orded thats shown up as instock on their website.

Nah, you can use the existing DB01 diff plates, all you need to replace are the joints.

DB-01 comes supplied with pno 51287 diff rings.

I've got the rear diff joints and assembly shafts waiting to be installed this weekend. Just installed the atomic carbon damper bridges but still need the longer ball connectors.

Yoldume 20-01-2010 03:26 PM

Grip roll ?

got quite a bit of it today when i went out, i was running on wet grass with the stock tyres

the car took some massive abuse and not a think broke or gave up althought the rear diff doesnt feel too happy :D
