RC Rallying

In one of my random trawls through YouTube and the web, I've uncovered a load of stuff about RC Rallying - running 1/10th electric rally car over timed stages while the driver runs alongside.

Stuff like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSc5f6RsoSE&NR=1

It seems to be big in the Czech Republic for some reason. Anyone know any more about it?

farmboy 05-01-2010 09:32 PM

Oh and here's some more:

I guess you like it then 'Farmboy'

I think this has been discussed before - not sure, but someone might have actually taken part in some of that madness also.
It looks good - and might even keep ya a bit fitter haha. Tbh, I'd love to race some rally cars around a circuit (rallycross style) with scale bumps and jumps, not 10th buggy sized madness. Some close racing like touring cars but with actual off road fun.

Yeah, me too. Without having to run alongside in shorts and white socks.

farmboy 05-01-2010 09:36 PM

Either of these would do the job..

Oooh that DF03ra integralle looks awesome - would only make sense if you could use it for some racing tho :( Sadly there's no rally fan dedicated enough to kick off some racing I don't think.
Really cool though - I'd love to do some scale racing with one of those, no crazy power brushless nuttyness tho. standard motors and cells.

Marvin 05-01-2010 09:57 PM

I don't know, you could use 17.5T Brushless - it's what the Yanks do for their stock classes.

Holeshot 05-01-2010 11:45 PM

lol, have to be fit to run along side. I like this video of 1/5 rally cars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLY6t2L7UFU

Stu 06-01-2010 06:50 PM

Has anyone ever seen any 10th scale Group B shells?

Or MK2 Escort?

Or MK1/2 Golf?

Colinevan 06-01-2010 07:21 PM

I would even convert a 4wd 1:10th to rally x style like what peeps used to run years ago... Like the manta rays, optima mids, lazers etc etc.

Southport would be an ace track for that.

I reckon it could take off.

Col.

ClydeBuilt 06-01-2010 07:28 PM

Love to do this but not physically capable of running along behind the car though...:woot:

There was a guy in one of the mags who had an Escort shell on a 1/10th drift car. Not sure where he'd got it though.

MHeadling 07-01-2010 07:15 PM

That Mk2 Escort was Phil Warners, you can get them from Kamtek

proper rallycross is whats needed, 10th rally cars, 200mm, oldskool shell's like rs200, 6r4's. escort wrc's , 306r4 ( andy burton styleee) and mad motors, indoors, circuits on mixed surface,,,, proper giggle.
we used to do this at ludlow on our polished boards,,, soooooo much fun! just cant get the decent shells as listed above

franki 07-01-2010 08:31 PM

hpi ran a series for a while, I may be on my own but I think real looking rc cars look cheap ??? I know there not it's an odd one to explain !!!

markwilliamson2001 07-01-2010 08:33 PM

Yes it used to be Yokomo and HPI Rally cars in 200mm wide setup. They went well at Tiverton on the clay, very nice to drive, and drift round the sweeper!

The Subaru shell from HPI was nice, but it would be ace to see some Metro 6R4, or Audi Quattro shells out there, Group B stylee!

The HPi rally cars were great to race, me and Stu used to run a club in Burnley and we had about 8 racing - Great fun.

They seem to be quite rare now, although I suppose it was ten years ago!

I would love to race R/C rally cars again, but it's the same old problem of getting enough people together.

I wonder if they would start a class at the new club starting in Rossendale.....

Si Coe 07-01-2010 09:25 PM

God I hope not. I've already been regretting selling my very custom MR4 Rally
http://www.simondavanzo.pwp.blueyond...1242081432.JPG
Used to run rings round the HPI's and Rally Weapons.....

WHITTLER555 07-01-2010 09:35 PM

ARGHHHH! I sold my HPI, regretted it, then when touring cars started racing at the local club I bought an MR4 off Ebay, must have been one of my first purchases.

It had a Citroen Xsara body and it had dual rate spring shocks on.

It was great, and then I sold it - DOH!

wezzer 07-01-2010 09:49 PM

i sold my hpi rally and wish i never, would by it back for double what i sold it for

wezzer 07-01-2010 09:50 PM

showtime 07-01-2010 09:53 PM

who makes that particular shell? looks ace indeed. if touring cars ran shells like that instead of jellymoulds the world would be a different place

ashleyb4 07-01-2010 10:51 PM

Jelly moulds hahahahahaha

MHeadling 07-01-2010 10:52 PM

Kamtec make it Jimmy, it looks well sweet!!

One of Phils cars is in Model World Maidstone, it's awesome!

Proper detailed Toyota twin cam engine, he used 64dp pinions as cam pulleys!

I'll try and take some pics but I am sure there are some on net, go Showtime let's see what you can find!!

WHITTLER555 07-01-2010 11:15 PM

I can't find that body on Kamtec's website?

telboy 07-01-2010 11:31 PM

I did a meeting in that HPI series at kiddy. It was hard work if I remember. Getting the car to handle was a real pain. I ran the Yokomo toyota corrola. Good fun, but no where near being on the pace. lol

The whole thing just didn't take off though.:(

Just spotted this, Funny that nobody has built up more rally tracks, simple cars, look like the real thing , and the track is one hell of a lot cheeper to build, yer ok running with the car may not be to everyones taste (or ability in some cases),but from a kids/teens point of veiw just the job, and all you need is a small patch of woodland and some warning tape..not half an acre af land planning permits and a couple of grands worth of astro.

twisty 09-01-2010 02:56 PM

Greets,

i think the Escort body is from Retro Racing [Finland] IIRC

http://www.retroracing.com/epages/OV...ories/Products

A word of caution though,i beleive they could be made from PPE and not Lexan,i have seen a shattered one in someones showroom on Tamiya Club.

This would suggest some other clear plastic sheet used, other than Lexan.
I think Much More is importing for the UK.

Great looking shell, but i need it to be confirmed as Lexan before i would purchase one,oh and i`m skint at the moment,so i don`t really need to ask yet :)

till 09-01-2010 08:55 PM

i just got a question about those Rally cars.
Especially I mean the DF-03Ra from tamiya.
Do they have Diffrent Dampers or could i use my TA 05 with other tires too ??

Thanks
Till
