How much would Ebay have took off him for them starting prices or what they are going to take off of him for selling them.:o:o

Nick Goodall 18-01-2010 03:03 PM

Can't get on Ebay at work - is it a 6R4? £70k is surely CHEAP for a 6R4??

Still love them!

I love vintage stuff like this. :wub It has to be the most unlikely platform for a rally car you can think of, especially in the monster power era. They sound like nothing else. I'd have it. Can anyone lend me the money. I'll pay you back, honest.

this is vintage old skool

Rusty doors and flat fours rule.....Man i love my vdubs :thumbsup:

Glenn 18-01-2010 09:07 PM

Oh man, that is sooo cool. The Renault 5 turbo is one of my all time fav cars. The baja VW's were great, the inspiration for the Tamiya Sand Scocher and that is just about the coolest vintage RC car.

pat*1 18-01-2010 09:10 PM

I might upset a few people here but you cant have a thread about the greatest rally class and cars of all time....then put a bloody vw beetle in the conversation....scraping the barrel with ford escorts..

Fantastic shots mate :)

I actually had a chance to go in the passenger seat of one of these as a kid
http://www.infonews.co.nz/photos/600...eet_sprint.jpg
as my Aunt was some marketing person at Ford and blagged me onto a press session at Borehamwood.
All I remember was it was hot, unbelievably noisy and then it broke down:cry:
We never went all that fast but you could certainly tell it was a beast. I've driven a Lancer Fq340 and been in Imprezzas and Escort Cosworths but they were nothing like that.

Yup............that does it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I belive that the rallycross leg-end Pat Doran's son is still using one in rallycross at the moment. Still an amazing car after all these years. I wonder if i take a hammer to my mondeo if i can beat it in to a similar shape.

Si Coe 18-01-2010 10:34 PM

To fully repeat the experience, take the silencers off the exhausts then shove the engine on the back seats. Remove the correct sized radiator and get a much smaller one from a Ka, then stick it to the roof just behind your head. Next remove all interior trim and stick 800 random (and completely unlabelled) knobs, dials and switches.
Then take the seats out, get one of those hard backed plastic chairs and bolt it directly to the floor.
Finally drive the whole thing off a cliff at insane speed and die
And there you have the Group B experience!

LOL:thumbsup: bring it on! now where did i put my tool box,
im off to play in the garage for a few hours, hold my hat for me while im gone, theres a good fellow!

Hog 19-01-2010 08:57 AM

I'm one of the start line marshals for the Lydden Hill rallycross meetings (I've done Brands Hatch too) - back in the Group B era when I was stood next to an 8 car grid of these monsters pushing out between 800 to 1000 bhp each - it leaves a lasting impression on you to say the least.

The modern rallycross cars just dont have the same appeal to me I'm afraid. The 6R4 just has a noise to die for, the RS200 is sleek and sexy, the 205T16E2 mentally quick, but the most brutal of them all were the Audi S1 pictured above and the Lancia Delta S4.

There was a Lancia raced by a chap call Jarmo Lahteenmaki - was both supercharged and turbocharged - totally and utterly mental.

God i could go on and on reminiscing lol.........

Lee 19-01-2010 08:48 PM

Its not the initial 75k outlay that scares me as its a fantastic car and an iconic one at that, but the full and i mean full rebuild after every event that put me off getting one, i can get 1500 miles out of my engine before it needs a rebuild and about the same for the box and diffs but could you imagine paying 5-10k every month or every event even if you didnt break it?

Still an awesome awesome car

And the lad who commented about the vw's, your wrong :woot:

pat*1 19-01-2010 10:08 PM

Im wrong? what the beetle does deserve to be included in a thread about GroupB classics....

Lee 19-01-2010 10:24 PM

Is it a group b car? No
