R.C.C.A.O.I. National Rounds 2011
Hi all,
There are six national rounds in 2011 - 3 in 2wd and 3 in 4wd. Your best 2 results from the 3 count. 1 May - 4wd Round 1 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan 5 June - 2wd Round 1 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan 26 June - 4wd Round 2 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan 14 August - 2wd Round 2 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan 4 September - 4wd Round 3 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan 18 September - 2wd Round 3 - Griffeen Valley, Lucan SAVE THE DATES!!!! It costs 10 euros to join the RCCAOI, and a race fee for each day also applies - more info later. |
With only 6 weeks to first RCCAOI round, I thought I'd stick a bit of info up for the newbies
1. The RCCAOI (Radio Controlled Car Association of Ireland) is the sport's governing body which runs the Irish National Championship each year. 2. This year there is a Modified and a Clubman (10.5 motors or greater) class at each event. It is hoped that everyone will take part. 3. Your overall position will determine whether you are offered an entry for the next Euros/Worlds 4. All of the events in 2011 are scheduled to be held in Griffeen Valley, but it is hoped that as soon as another club is in a position to hold a round of the series that they will. 5. Your performance in the RCCAOI series determines your formula grading for the following year. So if you do well at the nationals, you may find yourself in a faster heat next year. Ill add more info as I think of it - or else you can post a question. Will |

I would imagine that a 4wd clubman class can only benefit the championship and section. I will speak to Tony Kavanagh (the RCCAOI 1/10 Offroad rep) and ask him about this, or he may respond directly if he looks at the this thread. I would suggest that the class is goverened to be most beneficial for the novice racers - maybe the "Stock" spec advanced timing esc's should be banned....?..... otherwise it defeats the spirit of the competition |
If you were making up a ruleset for a clubman I would strongly advise that "stock" spec speed controllers are outlawed or at least made sure they don't use the advancing profiles as otherwise you're just running a modified. My GM120 2010 + Graupner 10.5t can easily beat a 6.5t and give most 5.5t's a run for their money.
|
hows it going lads.with respects to a 10.5 4wd clubman class it is planned and once there is interset will be run.the spirit of the clubman class will be no advance timing allowed and spot checks will be performed.also motor timing is to be as per manufacturer settings when new.if you wish to run a 10.5 with timing advance you would be welcome in the modified class.
entries for the nationals will be taken on the day but pre entry would be greatly appriciated(entries to me at [email protected] stating name, club and class entered and crystals.) as will mentioned the membership fee to join the rccaoi is 10 euro one off payment plus 5 euro one off payment per class, with a race fee on each day to be confirmed with the dmcc. feel free to contact me on oople or at the above email with any questions you may have |

Myself and Colin hope to do all these rounds or at least 2 per class to get a position :)

Stock spec decisionsssssssss
Hi all.
Can you decide now what speedos are allowed in 10.5 as I have just bought stock spec lrp to run in 10.5 . Thanks Ivan |

Stock spec speedo defeats the purpose of the clubman class. The speedo can be tuned so the 10.5 goes more like a 6.5. I'll be making recommendation to the Association rep that rather than "banning" these speedos that any driver with one should only race in the Modified section. It means that the Clubman section will remain a nursery for emerging talent and a very level playing field. Not long till the outdoors now!! Can't wait :thumbsup::thumbsup: |
Hey,
Everyone just needs to take a step back for a minute. For the numbers we have banning anything like speedo will do more harm than good. Apart from adding additional work to the people running the day. This is a quote from the manual for the LRP Sxx StockSpec V2 Boost Zero Mode If value #0 is chosen for Mode.2 AND Mode.3 (e.g. factory default!) the blue LED will flash in neutral trigger position to indicate that entire timing advancement is disabled for „true stock racing“ as required by certain federations! So as long as there are no advance timing / power features used on the speedo, I don't see any issue with any driver using any speedo that they have. They will just have to be able to show that they have no advanced features of the speedo activated. MiCk B. :-) |
Sounds good to me Mick

sorry just re read my previous post and realised its not that clear.we WILL NOT be banning any speedos.as mick posted there are quick and easy ways of telling whether speedos are set for advance timing(we will just have to do our homework before the events:cry:).i honestly dont think its going to be an issue with the group of racers we currently have in the dmcc or the lads from up north, but we will be prepared if there is any dodgy carry on. |
thanks all
Just want to be sure and not buy the wrong gear. Just checked the speedo and there is no flashing led at factory default setting. ?? |

Hi Tony
It is lrp sxx tc v1. Factory default setting is ( 1-4-1-1- ) I`ll show it to Mick at the weekend. Thanks |
That speedo is fine.

I think I'll run with the big boys as I have barely a 10.5 to my name (I killed 2 in Naul at Xmas!) - if we get any youngsters down, it's likely they'll be running brushless RTR B4.1s and the like, so 3300kv motors (10.5) are exactly right for clubman class.
I know a bit about Hobbywing speedos, so can advise on those. They also make a true stock speedo for just this sort of occurence, the Justock, and the best part is, it's £34 from Giantcod! It also does well in F1s, crawlers (with outrunner motors!) and I'm sure a few other classes, so easy to find a new home once the driver graduates to mod racing. I rather like that the RCCAOI doesn't have a homologation list, prefering the common sense "no, you'll have to take that afterburner and wheel scythes off" approach to such things. No real need when the association is relatively small. |

Classes: 4wd Clubman - see RCCAOI rules - plus the following applies: 10.5 or greater motor only, timing advance on esc set to factory default settings. 4wd Modified - see RCCAOI rules 2wd Clubman - see RCCAOI rules - plus the following applies: 10.5 or greater motor only, timing advance on esc set to factory default settings. 2wd Modified - see RCCAOI rules Each meeting has 4 rounds of 'round by round' qualifying - your 2 best qualifying scores are added together to give your grid position. Pole gets 100, 2nd gets 99, 3rd gets 98, 4th gets 97 etc. There are then 2 finals for all. Winner of the A final gets 100 points, 2nd gets 99, 3rd gets 98 etc, etc. So after qualifying and 2 finals, everybody should ahve 3 scores of which you add up your two best - this gives us the final classifiations. Maximum points available on each round is 200. It'll be a tough championship this year - really looking forward to it. |
Hi all,
Just a reminder about the RCCAOI round on Sunday May 1st. The National round is for 4wd cars only, but there will be a normal days racing for 2wd cars also - so please come racing as normal. The current track design will stay the same until the national round is over - so you will be tackling a new track for the next club championship round on May 8th. Best of luck, and I hope you will all support a great event. Will |
Good idea to keep the track the same so we are able to practice on it coming up to the round.
Well done on the website results etc Will as im sure it takes up a lot of your time. |
Hi All,
Just a quick reminder about racing in Griffeen Valley this Sunday - May 1st: it's the first RCCAOI round for 4wd only. So classes being raced on the day are; 4wd Modified (RCCAOI only - open to everyone, register on the day) 4wd Clubman (RCCAOI only - open to everyone, register on the day) 2wd Modified (All DMCC members and guests) 2wd Clubman (All DMCC members and guests) I hope that anyone with a 4wd 1/10th Electric Offroad car from all over the island will come and participate. The clubman class means that there will be great competition amongst the novice drivers using 10.5 turn or greater motors. PM me if you have any questions, Will |
I should also have mentioned that the track is now closed until Sunday morning. This is to allow as much grass recovery as possible before the national round.
Anyone found using a car on the track prior to open practice on Sunday morning will be deemed to have damaged the track surface on purpose and may be subject to a disciplinary measure. Be warned.... |
Hi,just a note to those planning on runing in the clubman class at the nationals to ensure you have the manual for your esc available and be able to demonstrate that no advance timing is being run.if you havnt got a manual please contact myself or mick bolger before the event.cheers:thumbsup:
|
Best of luck to everyone this weekend!!!! Should be a tightly fought competition.
|

If anyone is stuck I have a spare 10.5 sensored novak motor they could borrow for the event, Just let me know if its wanted i`ll have it with me on the day. The more we get in clubman the better.

R.C.C.A.O.I 2WD Round 1 is on Sunday June 5th.
Time: 10.30am sharp Location: Griffeen Valley, Lucan, Co. Dublin Classes: 2wd Modified (RCCAOI - round 1 of 3) 2wd Clubman (RCCAOI - round 1 of 3) 4wd Modified (normal race day - not counting national round) 4wd Clubman (normal race day - not counting national round) We are looking forward to welcoming our visitors from all over the country. |
Just a thought . Maybe you should run a club 2wd class as not all 2wd drivers will register for nats and possibly drivers who normally run 4wd will only want to run in 2wd nats:confused:
You dont want 2wd drivers not running in nats to think they wont have a race. |

We need as many people as possible to register and race in the nationals as a report and photos will be going into Racer magazine and we need to look healthy. |
Could I join the rccaoi on sunday for the 2wd nationals?

Can I check the cost of racing at the 2WD RCCAOI Nationals on 5-June?
i.e. the cost of RCCAOI membership + Round 1 entry fee, for both Juniors & Seniors. We will promote this event at club racing tomorrow night, so would be good to have all the correct info to pass on. Thanks. |
Eda
It's 15euro to join the Rccaoi with electric class included, for anyone already a member in a different class (eg nitro 1/8) its 5 euro to register for a extra class. Race fees are either 5 or 10 euro , think someone from the Club committee will need to confirm that. Colin |
membership to the rccaoi is a one off 10 euro membership + 5 euro for the class(this covers both 2wd+ 4wd rccaoi nationals) on the day you will have to pay your entry to the club which i beleive is 5 euro
